Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

Not for me. I kept getting taken out of the movie and back into the real world because of all of the parallels to ANH. I just kept thinking, "I've seen all this before".
On of the things that helped me with "seen it before" was the fact that this history felt shared. It wasn't just Old Ben rambling on about stuff I didn't know, but people who lived in this world now telling stories and having heroes and excitement. It was very different for me because I was all in on Rey as a character and her attitude just worked.

What do you think were Filoni's contributions to The Acolyte over the wishes of Headland? What do you think Headland would have done without Filioni that would have been more successful? Where do you feel the he steered The Acolyte in such a way to where it was canceled by Disney whereas The Mandalorian and Ahsoka were both renewed? (Even The Book of Boba Fett has been quietly abandoned as opposed to being announced as canceled by Disney.)

I think the show ironically would have been worst without him. He I think clearly knows Star Wars in and out better than Headland. Like I said. He doesn't deserve much if any blame for the shows failure. I like the guy.

A majority of people don't pay attention to who the studio presidents are. Outside of Star Wars fandom, the president of Lucasfilm isn't going to be noticed by any in the audience. Even within fandom, the more casual fans who are the bread and butter studios crave probably care less if the position is held by someone named Dave Filoni or Splashy New Name. Besides, a majority of the work Filoni has done for Star Wars has been positively received amongst fandom and general audiences alike. He wouldn't have been promoted to Chief Creative Officer otherwise, nor would he have even been in consideration to be a studio's president.

That is why it would have to be a big name. Also at this point they need to win back fans who do keep up with this kind of information. I feel like casual fans are easier to win over than the long term fans because causal fans could care less if Star Wars is good enough. They will only go to a movie if they think it looks like it will be good.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of experience do you have running a major Hollywood studio? I'm assuming it must be quite a bit since you appear to know how to do it better than other people who have been doing it for decades.

Sadly no experience. Perhaps that is why Hollywood and Disney are having some many problems these days. They haven't hired me to save them! If you reading this Hollywood. I am ready to help you! :)

Well, that statement was certainly full of of words.

It's worthing considering that there are probably a lot more factors that going into decisions like promoting Filoni that us armchair executives aren't aware of. And typically when it comes to filling these kind of positions companies are usually going to want to promote someone from within the company who they know can do the job, rather than someone from outside the company. Hell even when they do hire from outside the company, it's still usually someone from a related company, or at least someone that one or more of the people have a history with.

I agree. I mean in the end everything we all think is really just opinions based on a limited amount of knowledge. We could decide not to have opinions based on that limited knowledge but where is the fun in that.

The Gilroy brothers were not huge Star Wars deep fans, yet Andor was wildly successful. They had people on staff to make sure the show fit the world.

What matters is quality of writing, acting and obviously overall production. Acolyte was interesting, but it did have its flaws.

It'll never happen, but now that Kennedy is out I'd like to see the ST de-canonized and redone properly. Unfortunately, with Carrie gone and Ford/Hamil even older, it would require some major recasting or deepfake tech unless they wanted to go a whole new direction without the OT characters at all. Which might also be okay.

The creature work in TROS is joyous. JJs sense of any kind of believable political structure is ridiculous but his ability to make the worlds feel ALIVE is amazing.
I don't have a lot of positive things to say about Abrams, but his preference for using practical effects over CG whenever it's, erm, practical is one thing I enjoy about his work.

And who is a big name among potential studio presidents? Anyone big enough to be known amongst the general public is in a tier one league of Hollywood where running a company like Lucasfilm would be a major step down. You seem to be working from a mistaken premise that running a studio is the same as being a celebrity. It's not. No one's going to see some Splashy Name announced as the new Lucasfilm president and say "Oh, So and So is now in charge of Lucasfilm? Guess I'll now check out Star Wars again." That's not how this shit works. At all.
