Your favorite black humor on DS9?

Good morning.

DS9 had this way of occasionally squeezing out a laugh or two (or, barring that, evoking a smile) during grim moments, despite the depicted (serious) subject matter. There was that time when Damar remarked to Weyoun XIV that the newly-appointed Vorta should speak with Worf, after the Klingon had performed an impromptu chiropractic adjustment on his predecessor's neck. With that in mind, I am curious as to your preferred instance of black humor.

I never felt it went really black per se, but I get your drift... and I like:
  • Garak: When the Klingons attacked the station, Gul Dukat and I were fighting side by side. At one point, he turned his back to me, and I must admit that for a moment, he made a very tempting target.
  • Odo: You'd shoot a man in the back?
  • Garak: Well, it's the safest way, isn't it?

  • [Quark has tampered with the station's and the Defiant's systems to play jingles advertising the "fun" in his bar]
  • Major Kira: If all your little advertisements aren't purged from our systems by the time I get back from the Gamma Quadrant, *I* will come to Quark's, and believe me, I will have fun!
She threw a lot of great threats, from creative ("if you ever point a holo-imager at me again, you will wind up eating it) to deadly earnest ("if you hurt that girl, I promise you... I'll kill you").

And the line by Garak was: "A pity. I rather liked him."

Well, I don’t do favourites, exactly, but dear Garak just came out with a lovely one. After her attempt at counselling him on his claustrophobia, he turns on her and tears 3 strips off of her, belittling her on her most sensitive issues, and finishes with, “Now get out of here before I say something unkind.” Written down like that it just sounds horrible, but the delivery was perfect.

As mentioned already, Kira's threat to Quark in the beginning of "THE QUICKENING" with his ads is one of my favorites. The fact Quark hardly reacts to Worf's anger but immediately helps O'Brien after Kira threatens him highlights exactly who he fears more.

Something that always made me laugh: "ROCKS AND SHOALS", when O'Brien laments that he tore his pants right after they swam to the shore from the crashed Jem'Hadar ship, and everyone else starts laughing, including him.

Another favorite: Keevan's fate at the end of "THE MAGNIFICENT FERENGI", when he's stuck endlessly banging against the wall.

Another personal favorite: "TIES OF BLOOD AND WATER". Weyoun drinks the poison, and Sisko's astonished look (one of THE best looks and comic timing of Brooks in the entire show) and Weyoun saying how toxic it is, and letting us know Vorta are immune to most poisons. Funny AND educational. What more can you want?
