General Trek Questions and Observations

There were turbojet powered bombers such as the German Arado 234 in 1943 but those were turbojets which used exhaust gases to produce thrust, not spinning props.

Star Trek has had living rocks, giant space amoebas, space jellyfish and whales, giant weaponized orchids and even tardigrades that can transverse the universe. I want to see a peacock that shoots laser beams.

Funny that I only just added a story to the TOS episode pitch game about a bird race loosing all their feathers. Bird people with sci-fi wings really should've been in the queue for that show

The Enterprise is sent to a remote colony to investigate the death of a Federation representative that had been sent to the world. The colonists have developed a power grid that allows them to create miraculous technology based on the usage of the plumage of local peacock-like bird life. Aside from the Federation representative, there have been several other murders by apparent phaser beam.

Investigation reveals that the needs of the power grid require constant replenishment of the feathers and the creatures are being ruthlessly hunted. However, surprise! They're sentient beings and fighting back to defend themselves with their laser feathers! The Enterprise has to convince the colonists to stand down and make peace with the peacocks before both sides take things too far.

A little bit "Devil in the Dark" and a little bit "Equinox" (and I would probably add a touch of "Home Soil" to that in the colonists motivations), and you have a Star Trek story!
