MLB 2025: The A's are Playing Where Now?

The second big free agent contract of the offseason goes to..... Dylan Cease to the Blue Jays for 7 years, $210 million.

The contemporary baseball era committee has elected Jeff Kent to the hall of fame.

Barry Bonds, Gary Sheffield, Roger Clemens and Fernando Valenzuela did not receive enough votes to be on the ballot the next time their era is considered, but can be nominated again in a subsequent cycle. However, if they get nominated again but don't receive enough votes a second time, they're done.

Bonds and Clemens belong. It just begins to look petty keeping them out, along with Curt Schilling.

Kyle Schwarber re-signs with Phillies for five years, $150 million.

Edwin Diaz to be joining the Dodgers for three years, $69 million.

White Sox win the draft lottery. Will draft someone you've never heard of. Or if he's a Boras client, they'll draft someone else you've never heard of. The Rockies pick 10th. Even though they were the worst team, rules say you can't be in the lottery three straight years. The Nationals and Angels were also not eligible because "payor clubs" (teams that give in revenue sharing rather than receive) can't be in the lottery two straight years. So after they both suck next year, they will be back in the lottery.

The Angels settled with the Skaggs family after learning the jury likely wouldn't be favorable toward the team with the types of questions they were asking. It's a confidential settlement so we'll probably never know. The family was seeking $118 million.

The Rays have rewarded two-time All-Star Brandon Lowe.... by trading him to Pittsburgh. Tampa will send Lowe, left-hander Mason Montgomery and outfielder Jake Mangum to Pittsburgh. The Pirates will send right-handed pitcher Mike Burrows to Houston. Houston will send two prospects to Tampa.

RHP Michael King re-signs with San Diego for three years, $75 million. He can opt out after each season.

Munetaka Murakami picks the White Sox. Either he doesn't care about winning or he's betting on himself to show everyone how good he is so he can get a bigger contract on a good team. It's only for two years but it's $34 million.

Pirates sign Ryan O'Hearn for two years, $29 million. All the stories say this is the first multiyear deal the Pirates have given a free agent since 2016. Ten years of one-year deals!

Tyler Soderstrom gets a seven-year, $86 million extension with the A's, with an eighth-year club option and sliders that can max the deal at $131 million. It's the largest contract in franchise history.

Anthony Rendon, baseball's highest paid 3B ever, was scheduled to make $38 million in 2026, the final year of one of the worst contracts in professional sports history. It will now be spread out over a few years. He won't declare his retirement and will have to be put put on IL.

If they ever figure out the deferment, this will have to be updated:
