It's fascinating the franchise is so great that different people like entirely different parts of it -- I have the exact opposite opinion, I think VOY is by far the weakest of the Berman era and TNG and DS9 were better in the later seasons. And I liked DS9's serialized approach.

Guess that's what makes Star Trek so amazing, there is something for everybody. :)

I find it can offer something for my different selves, depending on my mood.

I agree Voyager is probably the weakest. I think strong out of the gate, but then got weaker.

But when I just want to flick on some Trek as I don't want to think and I want to relax it's Voyager. It's never DS9, which became my favourite.

I passionately hated VOY during its original run, I desperately wanted to love it but was let down, because it was so much worse than parallel running DS9 ... but over the years, my view on VOY has softened. I'm still not a huge fan, but enjoy it now and then. It does have its strong moments.

It's funny, I remember resisting DS9 bitterly as it it wasn't TNG.

It was only when I watched Whispers that I pivoted to liking the show.

VOY has its moments, but I think maybe its greatest failure for me is its refusal to take risks and implement lasting changes or even acknowledge the realities of the situation Our Heroes find themselves in.
Their situation isn't measurably different from Kirk's; there's vessels being sent on 5+ year missions into unexplored deep space all the time (even if in reality, Kirk can go from being outside Starfleet comms range one week to being at a Starbase the next week with no explanation given/required).

The Intrepid class was designed for years-long deep space missions so it's equipped to handle this kind of scenario, the only really unusual thing is that they can't contact Starfleet at any point (until the Pathfinder project, anyway) and that their CMO is a hologram who isn't designed to function for extended periods. But flying through the unexplored Delta Quadrant isn't functionally different from flying through the unexplored Alpha Quadrant, beyond the fact that in the latter case they plan on being home within 5~ years while Voyager in a worst case scenario would take 70~.

Hm, part of why I like VOY more than I used to, is because DSC has taken the spot of the Star Trek series I like least... but I prefer PIC over both DSC and VOY. Its arcs leave a lot to be desired, but I like the characters, both old and new.

But compared to Section 31, even DSC shines, imo.

Highest Point of the Latter-Day Berman Era (IMO): 1997-1998.
VOY Season 4, DS9 Season 6, and the most recent TNG Movie was still First Contact.

Lowest Point of the Latter-Day Berman Era (IMO): 2002-2003.
ENT Season 2 (though I didn't watch it until long after the fact) and Nemesis.
