College Football 2025: Where's My NIL Money?

A few weeks ago my local sports radio station had a discussion where they talked about the spiraling payouts these college coaches are receiving and how unsustainable it is; because every coach you hire afterwards is going to want the same, or bigger, salary than his predecessor and where is the money going to come from to fund that.

Somehow, Alabama got in. Notre Dame didn't, which isn't a loss. James Madison got in but we know they're getting destroyed.

All this argument and complaining over who should and shouldn't be in the CFP when there aren't 12 elite teams to begin with. Just look at last year.

Iowa State and Kansas State are getting fined $500,000 each by the Big 12 for skipping bowl games. Sounds like there will be 5-7 teams going bowling.

None of this is as egregious as a 13-0 FSU getting left out a couple years ago, but it's still a very bad look. Alabama absolutely should not be in the playoffs. Whether it should have been BYU, ND, or even Duke (since they won the ACC ?!?) is a separate discussion.

Bowl games may have an issue developing where teams simply don’t want to participate in what are meaningless games.

But don't you want to be able to tell your grandchildren about how you helped defeat the mighty UTEP Miners in the George Foreman Serving Removable Plate & Panini Grill Bowl?

Traveling half way across the country to play a game in front of 150 people prepares you for your time in the UFL.

Tennessee is headed to the Music City Bowl. You have any idea how not excited I am for going to exotic Nashville in Dec?

And that's before getting into the fact that the last two MCBs we've played in UT got absolutely hosed by the refs. Our game against North Carolina produced an NCAA rule change because North Carolina was able to benefit from its own penalty:

Because of the 4th quarter situation in which North Carolina's foul stopped the clock, a rule change was made effective beginning with the 2011 season. The new rule calls for a 10-second runoff to be assessed in addition to any yardage penalty when the offense commits a foul that causes a clock stoppage unless the penalized team opts to take a time out.[9]

Our last time there vs Purdue an obvious TD was said to have been stopped short on "forward progress" even though the RB entered the endzone with the ball.

There are too many bowl games but as long as someone is profiting then New Mexico State vs. San Jose State in the Mint Mobile Bowl in front of 500 people in Tucson will continue to happen. And being able to transfer to a better school next year or keeping yourself healthy for the draft will ensure that enough players will opt out of enough bowl games to make them unwatchable.

I wonder if there's a list of players who opt out of the bowl game only to go undrafted.
