What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I think I like Nemesis better than Insurrection. Never a big fan of the primitive villages usually in Trek. Neither of them though are good. TNG had one good movie. One okay movie and two really bad movies. Thankfully Picard season 3 allowed the TNG gang go out in a better way.

First Contact, hands down.

Maybe there should be a poll...

Well that tracks with the tread title.

I was careful to add ‘I think…’.

The others are just there. I suppose they pass a couple of hours, but… there’s movies that are reputed classics and shows that are legendary that I’ve never seen.

I’m getting old, bud. I don’t have the time or inclination to rewatch stuff that I know I won’t enjoy.

*And with that, I’m heading back into lurk mode until Christmas*.

Two posts in one day. It’s more than my wee heart can handle.

I think Generations is the only good TNG movie.

The rest are shit. Will probably never watch any of them again and don’t care.

are we delineating between Regular movies and Star Trek movies, because First Contact is a good movie, the question is, is it a good Star Trek Movie.

Okay, this is probably going to be a controversial opinion. I think that someone coming in to Star Trek cold for the first time, and whether their approach is chronological, thematic, or simply for pure entertainment value -- they should start with Star Trek First Contact. It's an little in medias res, but it works.

It's an extremely entertaining fast-paced adventure that draws the viewer in. It literally tells you the mission statements of Star Trek as part of the dialogue, and it's literally the beginning of the story. What single installment would be better?

Scott Bakula at one point did tell an interviewer or reporter that if you wanted the backstory to ENT and where his show came from to go watch the movie First Contact. He wasn't wrong.

I would never put First Contact on the same level as Insurrection (:barf:) but I do feel like First Contact peaks in the first 10-15 minutes.

Magnificent opening, very cool ending and in the middle is a lot of exposition and humor that requires one to want to see James Cromwell as an alcoholic scientist living in a postnuclear Montana. It's my favorite TNG movie, but it does have its flaws and moments where I wish they'd gone different directions.
