Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Next year does mark the 30th anniversary of the TV movie, which some have speculated that McGann's presence at Bad Wolf Studios was related to something being done to commemorate that.

As for the Christmas 26 special spoilers, they do sound plausible to me anyway, but we'll see.

How would you do a Wilderness Years box set? I thought those were the years that there were no onscreen releases other than The Movie.
I think the idea behind it is that it would contain the movie (maybe even multiple cuts of the movie, who knows) and its extras both legacy and new, spread over two or three discs. Thirty Years in the TARDIS, the Children in Need and Comic Relief specials, perhaps Scream of the Shalka (perhaps even an Adventure in Time & Space with a choice of watching either the Matt Smith or Ncuti Gatwa cameos) and any legacy extras from the DVDs that weren't already ported over to the season 1 through 26 Blu-Ray sets.

Reports are that Paul McGann filmed something on November 12th in Camber Sands, wearing his NOTD costume and the TARDIS was present
They should do a Tennent with McGann and bring him back and give him either 1 season as the tv doctor or a few tv specials, involve the sisterhood of Karn again with their potions to explain his face return, then let him get a much deserved shot at having at least 1 season or some special under his doctors run.......seems only fair to me.

That makes sense then.

I have admit, after his return in The Night of the Doctor got such a positive response, I kept expecting him to get a bigger role in a future, and I'm a little shocked he hasn't shown back up onscreen since then.

"Andrew" the person who leaked all of S2's details correctly has supposedly returned with info on the Xmas Special. I say supposedly, as there have been a few imitators pretending to be him too. But to be safe spoilers on.

The episode is basically a Marvel What If... type story. "What if we made the last ever episode." But time will be rewound at the end back to the regeneration and depending on the situation by Christmas next year we either get the real next Doctor or something more open ended.

Carole Ann Ford will have a big role in the episode, just not the one she was originally planned to have.

While the broad stokes of the script are in place the details are in flux (no pun intended) as they're basically trying to pull in all their favours in terms of who they can get to appear in it. They're hoping for everyone bar Eccleston and Capaldi but until they get firm commitments it's more a case of "Generic Doctor" and "Generic Companion" appear at this point in the story.

Shooting is planned for February/March and it should be closer to 90 minutes than 60.

Another RTD ego trip to close out their era like "End of Time" before new blood takes over?

The kitchen sink will return..............

Moffat brought the First Doctor into his era's finale and Chibnall's last episode featured The Master, UNIT, Ace, Tegan, Jo Grant, Ian, Mel, Graham, plus the First, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth and Fugitive Doctors so you can hardly say RTD is alone in throwing the kitchen sink at the end of his era.
