Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Disney really blew it. But I guess if you're not a hit right out of the gate in the U.S. on Disney+, you don't have a chance.

I guess in a year or so we'll get the news on whoever is taking on the role of the nth Doctor. I just hope it is not a year plus between the 2026 Christmas Special and the next season.

Having guessed the BBC funded Xmas Special correctly, I going to aim to be two-for-two and say David Tennant will be in it as the meta-crisis Doctor.

Which should also mean we get Jackie's reaction to the situation...

The first Doctor Who episode in a year and a half — and the last in who knows how long — is absolutely not going to be a fanwank circle jerk that would make Craig Into blush. The not-we don't give a shit about twenty year old plot points.

You think he's not going to pull the Tennant Emergency Lever one more time?

As much as we'd love for RTD to not do it chances are he will.

I mean the Doctor looking like a former companion and NOT calling back twenty years would seem like a cop-out

14th doctor has to react to this.

Maybe to set things right the 14th doctor has to re do the bi generation regeneration and be absorbed back into the Piper doctor. We saw something similar with the Watcher and the 4th doctor

14th doctor will sacrifice themselves for Piper doctor to regenerate.

"Doctor heal thy self........"

But Alas, This is the mess we're currently in.

Tennant Emergency Lever? Sure. Fourteen is back, and Georgia Moffat is filing for divorce like she said she would.

The Meta-Crisis Doctor? No one effing cares.

I mean, okay, I can see a scenario where the Rose (Doctor?), the meta-crisis Doctor, and the fourteenth Doctor have some Space Kablooey thing happen and they all merge together in a mass regeneration effect into a new sixteenth (or seventeenth) Doctor.

But that's not a story you do on Christmas Day. You're talking about a story that only fans, deeply conversant in twenty year old plot points, could even understand. The people of middle England, watching Christmas day telly, aren't going to know where to start with that.

If RTD did that, then Doctor Who deserves to die on the pyre.

They had the Expanse and The Boys. Fallout seems to have done well
I forgot The Expanse ended on Amazon Prime, and I realize now that I more specific that I was thinking just of space sci-fi along the lines of Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, ect.
Bad Wolf are owned by Sony who don't have their own service but do have a strong relationship with Amazon, so that's probably the first call.
Actually I think Sony does have a streaming service, there's some Sony something service that I've never heard that comes up on my PS4.

I could definitely see Tennant coming back, there's no way they're going to be able to resist have him and Billie Piper back together, but I'm pretty sure it would be as The Fourteenth Doctor. Brining back the Meta-Crisis Doctor would just be way to complicated, especially compared to 14.

It's nice to get some solid news about what's next. I hope we don't have to wait to much longer for whatever announcements they have about the next full series/season.

People keep going on about undoing the Timeless Child but what if RTD undoes bigeneration?

Maybe Billie is 16 but the regeneration is unstable and the only way for her to survive is if 14 and 16 have to fuse together, causing them to merge into the Seventeeth Doctor!

Hey it makes about as much sense as a meta crisis Doctor, the Timless Child or Bigeneration!

Another Tennant appearance, at least for now, would be a terrible and frankly embarrassing desperation move. He’s had his time AND his grand encore. Years down the road, showing up in some “Five Doctors” equivalent would be fine, but really, his story’s firmly over — or at least it ought to be.

And undoing anything would be pointless pandering. You don’t want to deal with something? Just move on, whether you’re a fan or a production team.
