Mark my words. We will get a big trilogy soon as Kathleen Kennedy is gone in about a year. Maybe even a reboot. Sebastian Stan is just waiting for the call to become the new Luke Skywalker.
There is no way any of this is going to happen.
If a director is going to be given unlimited authority, they should give it to a director who knows and understands the series well. And KK or anyone else should not interfere with 'that' director's work.
No director should ever be given "unlimited authority", every time that has happened people have ended up hating it. People need someone around who is willing to tell them when something isn't working, because nobody is perfect and even the greatest creators sometimes have bad ideas.
KK should definitely be fired.
No, she's done her job very well, and while it they haven't all been perfect, we've still gotten way more hits than misses since she took over. If anything, I'd say her hit to miss ratio has been better than Lucas's overall.
It doesn't matter if it's financially successful,
Hollywood is a business, so financial success is all that matters.
in my opinion, the movies were terrible except for Rogue One and a little bit of Solo. And the TV series were all terrible except for The Mandarilon and Andor.
Completely disagree on this point.
If I'm doing a terrible job, of course they should fire me.
Kathleen Kennedy has not been doing a terrible job by any definition of the term.
If you're not going to give them freedom, why do you even give them work?
Directors don't get "freedom" with these kind of franchises, they tend to work more like a TV series, with the producers having the final say and control over things. The only directors get "freedom" these days is with low budget independent movies. There is simply two much at stake for these studios to be willing to be totally hands off with these kinds of movies.
You let the guy who made that weirdo TLJ make the movie he wants, but you don't let two great directors like Phil Lord and Christopher Miller work?
Lord and Miller could not perform the job they were hired to do, it's a simple as that. From what I've read, it sounds like they had agreed to deliver a certain type of movie, but it pretty clear once they really got going that they were not able to actually deliver. So to go back to your ealier posts, they were doing a terrible job and so they were fired. I got the impression that working with Rian Johnson was a good experience, and the higher ups were happy with what he was able to deliver.
What's the logic here? Besides, the film already went over budget by having to reshoot it twice. The problem isn't the directors themselves, it's KK, who won't let them make the movie they want.
No, the problem is they were not able to do the job they were hired to do.
They had never directed a movie of that kind of scale before, and I got the impression that they had gotten over their heads, and had no idea how to direct a movie like it. I got the impression they were trying to do it the same they did their earlier goofy comedies, and big effects heavy sci-fi adventure movie has to be made very differently from those kind of movies.
