For most of my school career, my motivation was to avoid punishment for bad grades. I certainly wouldn't have thought I would wind up as an... (looks around, sighs) ...employee of the educational system myself.

Why do we still say "actor" and "actress?" We don't say teacheress or doctoress. A cook, painter, writer or police officer don't have a gender specific title. Why do actors?

Probably because of how the Ensors failed in by introducing a gender neutral award because they kept nominating only the men, it's only last year or so they nominated a few women. You can read more about it here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ensor_Award

BTW Doctress is an actual word, though no longer in common use

Policeman is still used sometimes and Policewoman is also used depending on where you live.

Maybe it's the change in the weather/season, but the motivation to sit at the laptop and work on any long term outstanding projects has left me.
I just sit there, staring at the screen, hoping inspiration will strike and nothing happens.
I end up watching YouTube videos.
