So what marketing slogans have you seen heard or read somewhere? Have they ever sucked you in?

One that just made me cackle madly just now.

"Triple science formula"

I mean that must be really, really good it's not just science it's triple science. /s

The product was a spray hair accelerator. What was interesting with the ad was that it was an American ad with a dubbed voice over.

All the little testimonials were Americans. But the narration was a very obivous australian voice over.

If they throw the word "science" into it, it must be created by smart people who know what they're doing, right? /sarcasm

That's not a slam at science itself, btw, just at people who don't understand it and aim their marketing campaigns at other people who don't understand science, either.

Despite the Insanity of what this advertises, I actually bought it.

Surprise!

It doesn’t actually work…

Plus, PURPLE!!!???

Yeah, yeah, leave me the F alone…I feel stupid enough, already!!!

Colgate Optic White Purple Toothpaste for Teeth Whitening, Mint Paste

Okay, that's a new one on me so I looked it up. You mean a spray drying accelerator? Or like a spray for accelerating hair growth?

Years ago there was a Braum's hamburger commercial where they were advertising their 1/3 pound burger. The commercial was set in about an 6th grade classroom and there was a teacher in front of the class with two circles behind her, one in thirds and one in quarters and this was to show that their 1/3rd pounder is bigger than a McDonalds 1/4th pounder (Roayle with Cheese, for our French TNZers).

When I first saw it, I thought it was a good idea since someone who isnt' mathematically literate might thing 1/4 is more than 1/3 because 4 is bigger than 3. So I was on board with their strategy, until in the dialogue she said, "blah blah blah, that means our burgers are a lot bigger. A lot juicier." I got mad because they were doing so well and then they added in that last bit. They framed it as larger means juicier I was so disappointed they added that misleading bit to such a good idea for a commercial.

30 years later, here I am.

For accelerating hair growth, correct

Found the page

But the TV ad used the line "tripple science formula" which cracked me up

One of my favs is for a sanitation/porta pottie company that says: "We're Number 1 at Number 2!" Gets me every time. Whoever came up with that is brilliant.

Also more locally, while not technically a slogan, several years ago there was a contest to name one of our snowplows. The winning name ended up being Ctrl-Salt-Delete.

Similar thing happened with A&W here in Canada in the 80's, only the strategy didn't quite work as many still believed a 1/4 pounder was bigger.

The goal:
A&W launched a 1/3-pound burger to compete with the Quarter Pounder and Whopper, offering more meat for the same price.

The problem:
Marketing research showed that many customers incorrectly believed that a 1/3-pound patty was smaller than a 1/4-pound patty because the number '3' is less than the number '4'.

The result:
Customers perceived the 1/3-pound burger as being smaller and a poor value, leading to poor sales and the product's removal from the menu.
