James Gunn ought to make a Star Trek movie

Yeah, I know he's working for the competition.

Still, he'd make a great movie. It would be hugely successful, going a long way to establishing some credibility for the IP in theatrical markets. And he'd win over most Trekkies in the long run.

Because his movies entertain people, are fun and colorful, and at their cores are about human bonding, personal growth and overcoming one's limitations.

He's good at big, flamboyant modern space opera and adventure fantasy. Old school space opera is foundational to Star Trek.

He likes preposterous concepts anf story concepts, also key to TOS and the TOS-derived movies.

And his writing is a lot smarter than anything that went into Abrams Trek.

He has written a Star Trek novel.
(Yes, I am aware that's a different James Gunn. This is just meant to be a dumb joke, that's all).

But seriously, Gunn's movies are a great balance of comedy and poignancy which Star Trek could certainly benefit from. Bonus if they include a dance number like the Peacemaker credits. Alas, running DC's movie division probably rules out him making a Trek movie anytime soon. To say nothing of the fact that I'm not convinced we're getting any Trek movies anytime soon regardless.
Even Olatunde Osunsanmi, director of section 31?
Section 31's flaws had nothing to do with its director.
