Xbox gone crazy. 9000 people sacked

8th Gen = Xbox 1, this launch was won/lost at the infamous E3 where they talked about anything but games & DRM along with the stupid way to share games. While PS4 was Faster on Specs, easier to share games, and didn't have DRM non-sense. A disasterous launch that MS never recovered from. Basically, the PS4 beat the XB1 in a 2:1 ratio. It's VERY BAD how they were defeated so handily.

Someone pointed out this was the worst generation to screw the pooch on because it's when people started buying games digitally on a regular basis. And if all your digital games are on PS4, you can't play them on Xbox Series X without buying them all over again.

Yeah, it's the generation that you would want to build momentum on. In this sense, brand loyalty is even more important, so the reasoning behind gamepass does not make any sense within that context, as you're not technically buying the licences, which then ends up screwing the developer who loses sales. Personally, if I like a developer, I like supporting them directly.

Personally, I've never been a big fan of subscription models in regards to games. I feel like I'm always on the clock, always rushing through games in order to make the most out of the sub, which then makes me appreciate the games less for what they are. So, I much prefer to just buy the games I'm interested in playing directly.

Here's a good article that echoes what some of us have been saying.

The exact opposite of a sale, Microsoft is raising Xbox console cost a second time and it hasn't even been six months since the last increase. A Series X went from $500 to $600 and now it will be $650, and so forth.

Yeah, no kidding. This generation has managed a feat that none of the others have, which is the increase in console prices when they should have been going down. It's an expensive time to be a console gamer, as it's not only the price of software (aka games) that has gone up, but the hardware as well, and now the latest from Sony is that they're slashing the amount of storage on their consoles, from 1TB to 850GB. Those are last-gen storage amounts!

Combine this with the slow start this Gen had due to scarcity, and the trouble with current-gen specific games and this gen has been quite a disaster for the consumer.

All this paints the price of the PS5 Pro in an even worse light.

More price hikes:

  • Xbox Series S 512 $399.99 (up $20 from $379.99)
  • Xbox Series S 1TB $449.99 (up $20 from 429.99)
  • Xbox Series X Digital $599.99 (up $50 from $549.99)
  • Xbox Series X $649.99 (up $50 from $599.99)
  • Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition $799.99 (up $70 from $729.99)

ROG Xbox Ally price $599.99
ROG Xbox Ally X price $999.99

Never mind the price, who is even asking for this product?

The most notable takeaway from that is that the most expensive option is more expensive than a full-size XBox. Hmmm. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

I think MS have pulled way back on their manufacturing of console, as with the tariffs impacting cost and the console not selling to well, they might simply be pulling back somewhat to see where all this goes.

I even heard that a new revision of the PS5 pro was about to drop, and rumor has that it will cost almost £799 here in the UK......i mean that is insane if it turms out to be true......plus the other rumor that the PS5 is about to get another price hike around the time of the revised pro release, also psplus is also supposed to be getting a price hike before the xmas.

I doubt a crash now would affect anything like the Atari one. We'd lose AAA gaming, but the indy scene is so big now I can't see it going anywhere. Maybe we need more Waterpark Simulator and less Assassin's Creed.
