Tracking the Premier League scores, and Man Utd are continuing to surprise absolutely nobody. I suffered a few miserable years as a Liverpool fan, but our fall from our perch was nowhere near as sharp as this.
I'm not sure how bad things will have to get before they pull the trigger on Amorim, He seems completely out of his depth and his tactical inflexibility just seems increasingly childish. There's a weird modern strain of managers who'll just refuse to amend their tactics, no matter how badly they're doing.
I get that sacking him will cost them big time, and maybe they're hoping he just quits of his own accord, but why would you with tens of millions of pounds at stake?
People can say 'they'd never get relegated' but frankly this seems a much stronger league than last season. Sunderland have already equalled our 11 point record and Leeds are doing ok. Burnley are the only one of the promoted teams that looks like relegation fodder so far. Yes Wolves already look like dead men walking but that still leaves one slot. West Ham are down there now but likely Nuno will pull them clear (even if his brand of football might be too Moyes'y for some Hammers fans). At this rate United might end up grateful for Marinakis hiring Postecoglou...

It's certainly a great truism in football that no club is too big to go down. Newcastle, Leeds and Aston Villa have all felt the sting of relegation in relatively recent times, and both Utd and Spurs were only spared their blushes by the horrendous quality of the bottom three last season.
The big trouble, as you allude to, is that Utd face a large payout if they sack Amorim soon, and the process of golden handshakes is not a sustainable one. Nor is upending the backroom staff, training regime and tactics, all over again, but then again, as you also rightly say, not being able or willing to change tactics is proving very costly, and relegation would certainly entail a big financial hit. Utd seem damned if they do and damned if they don't.
