Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

I’m basing it on Who past, and things like Sarah Connor Chronicles, the cost of sets etc. (the Sun bit is a joke though xD)

If you own a studio (and the Beeb must still have some…) then you can save money by going studio only, rather than a mix.

I suppose I haven’t taken into account the shift in how location filming is done these days versus the old days, and the more usual approach versus indie film making and some of the styles that were popular twenty years ago. XD

(Catering? There’s the cafe and pub.. Loos? There’s the cafe and pub. Transport? There’s the train station, and if you”re lucky we’ll share a minicab…)

;)
Thing is, this is quite old news. I first became aware of this about fifteen years ago in regards to BSG's spinoff Caprica, which did have a higher budget than BSG itself because Caprica featured a lot more location shooting than BSG, which was with rare exceptions almost exclusively filmed within a studio. In more recent times, take Andor, which did have a higher budget than other Star Wars shows on Disney+ mostly because Andor did actual location shooting as opposed to the others, which used the VR wall instead.

When TV shows do do regular location shooting, it's usually to the same location simply because it's easily accessible from the studio the show is based in and/or it's a location everyone uses and has facilities set up to accommodate production crews, like all the Stargate shows (plus other Vancouver productions) filming in that same pine forest all the time or various Star Trek shows always going to Vazquez Rocks or Classic Doctor Who's love of rock quarries. Even then, if they can film in a studio instead of going to even these locations, the bean counters always prefer they do so. Which is also a contributing factor in why the VR Walls have gone in circulation.

And as alluded to above, the (presumably joking) suggestions you've provided to lower the costs of location filming would run afoul of the various labor unions who have to be adhered to in order to ensure a peaceful production. Indeed, one of the contributing factors in why location shooting was cheaper in the days of Classic Who than today was because Classic Who predated those unions going on strike to get those guarantees in place.

Yes, I was joking. XD

Though the idea of shaky cam Who where everyone provides their own costume is amusing,

The thing to keep in mind is that a big production like Doctor Who is going a hundreds of people to put together on location, and it will have to get tons of licenses and approvals for everything they want to do. It's not like this is just a group of friends who bought a camera and decided to make a movie out in their hometown.

I am aware xD
But hey, got to save the moneys now…

I’m sure they managed Curse of Fenric with one coach worth though. XD

I was watching Alien Earth and Samuel Blenkin really gave off a “next Doctor” vibe

This feels like a Doctor who scene where the Doctor talks down to the planet’s inhabitants

Yeah, I said in my first post in the thread for that show that I’d like to see him play Tom Baker or Four.

Sean Pertwee would be great casting, as he'd both be playing his own Doctor, and you might say he'd be kinda like the Fourteenth, an incarnation who took "one of the favorite" faces and reused it - but, with modifications!

Nah, much like Sean Pertwee I say let him play his own Doctor rather than a previous one. (I appreciate if you follow this through we'd never have got David Bradley)
Yeah that’s fair, but Tom has a very unique persona & look and it’s very unusual to see anyone who reminds me of him. So if they were ever to do a sequel to An Adventure in Time and Space or someone had a great idea for a two (or more) Doctors that featured Four, I think he’d be a good fit, assuming that he can capture the personality as well as the look.

Plus on the basis of recent casting, he’s probably too up and coming in his career to stick around for a few seasons as the full time lead for DW.

We literally just went through this with Ncuti.

Maybe this time have a clearer focus on what they want to do with a short term Doc.

8 episode season 1
Christmas special
8 episode season 2

Have it be the new generation “Trial of the timelord”

A big two season arc

Two season arc was shot in the arse recently. I wouldn’t take the risk. Chibnall got *something* right when he played his and Jodie’s first season arc free and very episodic.
Moffat didn’t have to worry too much with his and Matts first season, the numbers were strong when he took over and he had a rock solid season arc, and enough of a vague thing that could also be carried forward even across Doctors.
If we get anything soon-ish (Christmas Special next year if very very lucky) then you’re going to have some tuning in for finding out what’s going on with Billie, but that needs not only to pay off well, but also set something and *someone* in place for a potential future, but without leaving it in such a place that the whole thing gets stuck in limbo on a cliffhanger (like it is now.)

What it needs is less Trial of a Timelord, and more TVM (Enemy Within is still growing on me as that’s title) tbh. Just in case.

Frankly, and with great irony, they could do worse than seeing if Paul McGann wants the job again XD
