Spoilers Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

And not a surprise that TWB now won't be coming until 2026, so there's some Who-related content to screen next year.

But does that mean the last date Disney have to make a decision has also been pushed out to next year though?

I don’t know if this is really anything new but it’s certainly more positive than negative:
BBC wants to keep making DW, but can't afford it on their own. They need a funding partner, and in this day of cinematic TV, you need a couple million per episode. Unless they go back to broadcast TV with commercial breaks for first run (and I don't think commercials pay enough for DW anymore at ~$3m per episode) that means streaming. And streamers like to be in charge, so they can cancel you bc you're too expensive or for tax breaks or whatever on a whim.

Personally, I'd rather RTD stay on as exec producer but not showrunner or head writer. He's good with ideas and characters but needs someone grounded to keep the more ridiculous stuff at bay.

I'd also rather go back to the 2010's in terms of episode budget and production quality, I want fun TV with 12-14 eps a season, not a mini movie with 8 episodes.

Ehhhh...not really. Certainly not on the same level as the Emmys or the Golden Globes. Only people who really follow the awards seasons probably even know who they are.
Yeah, I've heard of them, but I don't think even show them on TV, and I've never seen anyone brag about winning one of their awards the way they do the Emmys or Golden Globes.

I'm an American, and I've never heard of the American Television Critics Association.

Only 99 more to go.

What part of "in American media" wasn't clear?

Imagine being so bitter about the series winning awards that you feel a pathetic need to devalue it.

Don't be churlish.

I'm not bitter about the show winning awards. I've been a Doctor Who fan since 1983. I only want it to succeed. I just don't feel the need to make more of this virtually unknown accolade than is realistic.
