The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Shane Black has made a movie called Play Dirty for Amazon, which is the latest movie based on the series of Parker novels written by Donald E. Westlake under the alias Richard Stark -- Lee Marvin in Point Blank, Jim Brown in The Split, Robert Duvall in The Outfit, Peter Coyote in Slayground, Mel Gibson in Payback, Jason Statham in Parker. And now.... Mark Wahlberg.

Goddamn it, I was so excited until those last two words.

What, no love for Marky-Mark?
I think he’s fine in a supporting role. Excellent in The Departed, Three Kings. But other than Boogie Nights, I can’t think of a leading role where he’s really commanded the screen. Maybe Black will get that sort of performance out of him, but after Sniper and Spenser, I’m surprised anyone is casting him in screen adaptations of pulp heroes.
