Tron: Ares

I'm indifferent towards Jared Leto, he's definitely odd as person, but he's done some decent roles. But given the choice between him and the return of Garret Headland, Olvia Wilde, and Bruce Boxleitner, I would definitely go for those 3 100%.

I dunno. For me, eccentric actors like actors like Jared Leto, Ezra Miller, Shia LaBeouf, etc. are difficult to watch, because when I watch Leto portraying a character, I can't see the character; all I can see is Jared Leto playing Jared Leto playing a character.

Exactly this. Just Jared being Jared. Meh.

 I saw that. But it is a shame that Disney has pretty much tacitly decided that the story and characters that were originally laid out was basically scrapped in favor of this new thing. I'll watch it, but I'm not holding out much hope for the franchise at this point. Not a big fan of Jared Leto at all, either. I find him to be quite repulsive. The only thing I think I ever really liked him in was "Lord of War", but he only had a supporting role in that.

Why does Disney do these kind of decisions? People would have loved a proper sequel, or even just had references to Legacy and such. People would have loved it more

Executives always think they know better than everyone else. Then again, so do the fans, and rarely are either side correct. Not sure what the answer is to that particular paradox.

The trailer made it look rather meh but I'm sure the music would be good. I'm not familiar with this NIN chap but he must be a big deal for them to advertise it.
Trent Reznor, the face man behind Nine Inch Nails, has done a lot of soundtracks, for both movies and videogames like the original Quake...

92 credits as a composer...

And that asks the actual question. Will Tron be in the movie? Obviously he would have to be CGI. And is he really be accepted as Tron if Bruce doesn't voice him? Movies and TV shows have recast characters many times over, but personally speaking, it would bug the crap out of me.

I have little hope that this will be a massive success. It's been too long since Legacy for excitement to carry over. This movie is directed at fans of Leto and (mostly) men over 45, IMHO.

My wife has zero interest in seeing this, but I'm sure my son and I will go, like we did for Legacy when he was 10.

I don't think Legacy did as well as the hoped, so they must have decided to just dump everything from it and figured nobody would care. But I have to wonder if the underestimated how many people like it, since it seems to have a quite a few fans online these days.

It's worth noting that the interview is from 2015, and Boxleitner did come back to Babylon 5 after that.
Funny enough only a few months ago there was a Scarecrow and Mrs King reunion at a convention. The panel is on YouTube. I think it’s the first time Kate Jackson had ever done a convention. Her and Bruce sitting next to each other, very friendly. The Incredible thing is she gave a very vivid and specific detailed pitch on how to relaunch that show. She clearly had put a lot of thought into it. Yet I get the sense they had never discussed it before hand. Who knows if anything will ever come of it. BUT clearly hearing her ideas got Bruce excited to the possibility at least. Sometimes that is all it takes.

We will find out if he is in Ares soon. For a long time I have noticed most actors do not like being asked about things they do not control. Returning to famous roles is a big one. There are very, very few actors who can just call a studio and say “I am ready, let’s do another one”. Then it happens. Probably fewer than ever. Too much money is at stake and too many people who need to approve it.

That’s hard for A list actors. Almost no one has that clout any more.

Whomever the performer there is little benefit for them to talk about do they want to return to parts. At worst it can look desperate for work. Also knowing the egos of studio executives they hate being publicly told to make sequels and who to cast. Any pro is too smart to say to the world “I should be in this movie”

Do enough of those online fans care enough to buy tickets to another outing? IIRC, Legacy didn’t exactly set the box office on fire.

In the early days of the internet it became clear that everything has a fandom. But it’s evolved to every fandom thinking they are the center of the universe. That the communication with their own small community is reflective of mass interest. We have seen so many cases were that turns out not to be true.

I am surprised they are making a 3rd Tron film at all. The original had a cult following and the sequel did not break out beyond that. Think of Blade Runnner. Original has amassed critical acclaim and cult following but did not make much money. The sequel did not change that.

Some of these genre properties would be better off on streaming. It would allow the supporting characters and older actors to return. But they cost too much to make. Also the studios are not comfortable putting huge money in even their biggest franchises on streaming anymore.
