Gina Carano Sueing for Wrongful Termination from Disney

She compared being a conservative to being Jewish during the Holocost, made of fun of people using masks during the pandemic, she's an 2020 election denier. I don't remember exactly, but she also made a lot of racist and/or homophobic and/or transphobic comments. Her lawsuit was also funded by Elon Musk, and that alone is all the evidence you need to tell you that she's a horrible person.

First the most controversial statement she made was the one disney fired her for. I dont recall her making any racist remarks. I.guess you're talking about her pronouns joke? People kept harassing her to put pronouns on her X and she didnt want go si she put beep boop bop or something like that. Whatever else I dont follow her close enough to know. But I do know she's never hurt anyone or committed a crime. Shes far from a horrible human being. I reserve that for people who commit actual crimes.

Well if she's actually committed a crime I have never heard of it. Shes opinionated. Thats basically what im hearing here. Honestly big deal.
Not my point. I’m not aware that she committed crimes either. I just find it interesting that you appear to be saying that committing actual crimes would make someone a horrible human being.

The few things she's been opinionated about aren't in the level of a horrible human being. I swear the over criticism of peoples opinions is getting really dangerous. For the last few years people have been canceled, threatened and even hurt for their opinions. Its insane. Agree to disagree, give a counter opinion and just move on. To continually try and bring a person down either publically or professionally is probably more horrible than any comment the person made. It's and insane path for a person to even stay on. Social media is a very harsh judge and jury on people.

Everyone uses Nazi's as a metaphor these days. The question isn't really about whether or not she is a bad person. That is subjective when it comes to the law. The question is whether or not her she was treated equally under the law.

Their is also the fact that she said her stuff online and not at work and not to co-workers. I have always had problems of people being fired for stuff they do in their private time. I don't think companies should have that much power over people, even when they are not at work. If she said those things while on the set it would IMO be a whole different issue.

Then their is the Disney aspect. Of all the people trying to make moral judgments on people it is not this corporation. They have a long history of fucking over people. Doing business with unethical people, like say China despite it's civil rights abuses. I have a hard time ever siding with billionaires on almost anything. Last thing I want is corporations talking about is morality and ethics.

Even when you're not at work when you say things, you're still going to be associated with the company in people's minds, and the companies are not going to want to be associated with you. I'm not a fan of the big corporations either, but they're all about their public image, and they're not going to want that image damaged, so I completely understand why they fire people like Corano.

technically, she reposted someone else's post about how before they could haul people away they had to turn their neighbors against them.
I'll be honestly I didn't remember exactly what she said and did, I was just going by what Wikipedia say and what little I do remember. I know back when all of the this first started I did see some of the exact Tweets, and I remember being disgusted and being glad that Disney was done with her.

Meh, I have absolutely no sympathy for people like Carano. And honestly, at this point this kind of thing has been going on long enough that people have to know what will happen if they say offensive shit online, so if they're stupid enough to still say offensive shit, then they'll get what they deserve.
Saying offensive shit is also not totally harmless, just look at the number of people who've committed suicide or been attacked, or other crimes that have been committed because of things that people have said on the internet.

Whoopi Goldberg said something similar and got two weeks suspension from Disney. She said hers twice I believe. The second time it went completely unnoticed. It should be one rule fits all and not pick and choose.

But its over now and I really hope Disney give her the role back in the mandalorian.

Problem is corporations can use that in other direction. Look at them today with the anti-DEI stuff. While I don't buy that Colbert was fired for political reasons I suspect their has been many people fired by corporations who are worried of offending Trump or for being to woke in recent years. It is always IMO better to support a individuals civil liberties even if the person is bad person over government and corporate interests. They got enough power as it is with their money and influence. We don't need to be giving them even more power.

I think the reality is her comments would have made no impact on anything. Just another person on the internet ranting about the state of things. People would watch the show because people liked The Mandalorian more than they care about some of the actors opinions on stuff. I could see them having concerns about giving her a show as the lead though. I mean you already know she has political views so if you give her a bigger show then you run the risk of basically doing the reverse Rachel Ziegler. Her right ring ideas blowing up beyond some Twitter fighting.

Makes sense IMO to basically just let her finish out her run on the Mandalorian and quietly end that show they were going to do. Then you don't have to hire her back since she wouldn't be under contract. She would have a harder court case to win because Disney can always point out that they let her keep working on The Mandalorian even after she said things they don't agree with.

Not quite. Whoopi Goldberg said the holocaust wasnt about race and was about man's inhumanity to man. That is just an ignorant statement, ignorance can be educated.

Gina Carano directly compared herself being called out for supporting far right conspiracy theories as being the same as a jewish person during the holocaust. That is grotesque and needs shutting down.

They are not the same circumstances. And the fact that miss Carano got away with so much far right nonsense with no consequences showed she was in good standing but then she crossed a line no company can ignore or else Disney would have appeared to have been condoning this view.

You make your employers look bad because you can't keep your opinions to yourself, you get sacked. Very simple and applicable to any workplace. And let us not forget Disney are certainly a company that would want to distance themselves from any nazi-related issues.

Nope.

She was cancelled for an infinitesimal amount of political incorrectness. There was no "so much". So much isn't a requirement in this climate. All you have to do is display a moment of irreverence to the regime's sacred caste.
