I need Advice for examining this Star Trek 6 prop

Star Trek Apolgist

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
So I bought this prop on Ebay. It was in a box of 13 different props from the Greg Jien estate. It is a prop that was only used in Star Trek 6, I want to make molds of the prop to make prop replicas for my Enterprise A project. But I first want to color match the prop before making a mold of it. There are rwo layers a lower wear layer and and upper layer. The wear layer is ment to be seen too so I would like to color match both. The easiest methoid I can think of is grabing paint color samples from Home Depot and eyeballing it. Although I am not sure if the upper layer color is effected by the lower leyer paint. I have included a picture of the prop below to show what I mean.

The auction also had 12 props that I can not Identify. if yoiu want try and to ID some of the props watch this video:

Some good ideas, I thought of these two, except the Excelsior one does not quate match. Also I know the Space station prop wsa never disassembled. I susepct most of these never made it on screne because a few look like they are unfinished.

For molding, casting, and paint color matching advice, I'd recommend posting this to the RPF.

Myself, if I really wanted to color match, I'd try to mix a custom color and airbrush it. Your off the shelf options might be limited, especially if you want to be as close as possible to the originals.

Are you checking against the right Excelsior? If it's from Jein's collection, it's probably from the little one he built for Voyager, which seem to be the middle and rightmost one in that montage, with the second one from right being the original miniature (post-GEN), and the leftmost one being an Eaglemoss desk model.

If you're serious about getting the values, you can buy a color-scanning device for not that much money, like a Nix Mini 3 Color Sensor Colorimeter.
