A non-negative review of the physical release that quite frankly reads like it was written by AI. (What the hell is a Xylothi delegation?)

about half like it and half do not
Thats accurate, looking at most ratings out there. It's still the lowest share of positive in recent memory for Trek. I think you have to go back to Enterprise to find that level of disdain.

On the other hand, there was an article that called it a streaming hit, and the numbers are good.

The best way to aggregate a poll like this is to remove all the ones and all the tens because those tend to be overly exaggerated. Especially the ones. I'll accept a 10 if it can be justified in thread, but they also tend to seem largely performative. After doing that, then yeah, It's a little closer to the 50-50 ratio but coming in a little on the lower side.

Always interesting to see numbers when there is swearing up and down that people will never watch it.

"No survivors? Then where do the stories come from I wonder?"

It's almost always lies. Sec31 appeared into the top 10 on Paramount + for awhile, and did so again last week. People like to keep up appearances, but...oh they watch...they watch.

And watch...and say how bad it is after they've watched it.

People watch bad movies all the time. Doesn't change the fact that they're bad.
As I said a few months ago, Paramount only cares that they watch. :) We were only discussing numbers in this context.

Bad is a subjective opinion, and it's hardly bad. In many cases people also say they like it. The current grade on Amazon right now: 4.0/5.0.

IMDb scores, Star Trek all-time bottom 5:

5. Voy: The Fight (5.0)
4. TNG: Sub Rosa (4.8)
3. Very Short Treks: Worst Contact (4.3)
2. Section 31 (3.8)
1. TNG: Shades of Gray (3.3)

Its score in this thread is about the same.

IMDb scores tend to drop over time so I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if we can get a new number 1 out of it.

Imdb scores are only partially reliable though. It's an easy target to review bomb along with RT, so take with a grain of salt.

Just as a quick glance through some rating sites with decent participation, Trakt TV appears to completely validate the 50/50 claim with a 50 rating, and another large one is split right down the middle.

Is anyone jumping for joy at that? Well, no. But it's certainly not the worst Trek movie or show ever produced, and "worst of" movies rarely get acting award noms from critics like Sec31 did.

No, it’s really not a subjective opinion in this case. The movie was universally panned. And because of that, it’s highly unlikely that the TV movie format is going to be a thing anymore, no matter that people are still watching it. I get that you want to live in some fantasy land where you think S31 was some awesome thing, which you are welcome to do. But that’s not the reality, sorry.

:wtf:
That wasn't the argument...

Where is awesome in this argument?

Indeed, yes. Did people watch is the biggest question.

Bad is not the question.
