Can we avoid the pure political swipes and at least try to pretend that this is about the future of Paramount and Star Trek?

Right, that's the point, which is why it's bleeding money and extremely doubtful any Youtube and TikTok ads generate nearly as much advertising revenue to pay for the show.
Sounds plausible. I'd bet they have the data on the breakdown of the legacy shows vs the new shows. I know my biggest beef with all these streaming services is the total bill is more than Cable used to be. I cut the cord in 2008'ish and never looked back (only thing I really missed was sports and that could be taken care of at the local sports bar for the big games).
I did watch far more DS9 on Netflix though the TOS Blu-rays were my usual go-to (now through Kodi/MythTV) though tend to watch what's free on H&I over the air these days.

What's in store for Trek?
Super hard to say. I haven’t had Netflix since 2017 because I don’t want to get invested in stuff that’ll get canned almost instantly (Paramount+, AppleTV+, and Crunchyroll have been more than enough to keep me happy). I think it’s easy for me to gut-react to Holland’s career history and worry, but she’s entering a totally different environment, with an IP-strengthening mandate from Ellison. And it’s not like she made every decision at Netflix by any stretch, anyway.
At the moment, I don’t think we can really say anything besides:
- It’s good that Ellison and Kurtzman are supposedly close. Well, “good” if you like Kurtzman Trek. I know some don’t. Trust me, I hear you. You don’t have to remind me.
- Ellison’s aforementioned IP focus arguably bodes well for Star Trek, with or without Kurtzman and Secret Hideout.
- Paramount will no longer be bleeding a slow death. That’s inherently good for anything under its umbrella. Even in a bad scenario where TV Trek hits a hiatus, it’s not like it was going to last much longer in general if no one was around to pay the bills. This, at least, ensures it will exist in some capacity.
- Other interested parties were more agreeable to the idea of picking Paramount apart. In such an environment, who knows what might have happened to Trek. It probably isn’t going anywhere now, from an overarching ownership perspective. And that is better than the majority of potential sell-off outcomes, I would say.
- I don’t actually believe Star Trek’s diversity messaging will be nuked, as some do. I’m seeing a lot of that from people. I’m not sure they’d go after individual franchises. And that is an incredibly nebulous thought process, besides.
- Regardless of the above, fuck Donald Trump, anyway.

And Trek isn't that progressive so I don't see problems. But, then, I don't think Trek will keep getting made either, depending on money.
Tell that to the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers!I can't see a former Netflix executive jonesing to redo TOS.
