‘Superman’s $57M Second Weekend Propels Warner Bros. To Top Of YTD Studio Marketshare With $1.32B

Superman‘s second weekend ease is -54%, a second weekend percentile decline on par with Deadpool & Wolverine

Meaningful speculation about whether WBD judges Superman to be a success is over at this point. They absolutely do.

Their stock price has risen 30% in the last six months - and keeping in mind that they suffered the same 20% correction at the beginning of April as the rest of the market, that's even more impressive. It's all due to a tremendously successful run at the box office this season, culminating for the moment in Superman.

‘Superman’s Second Weekend Higher With $58M+, Propels Warner Bros. To Top Of YTD Studio Marketshare With $1.32B – Box Office Update

The movie earned a million more on Sunday than previously estimated, pushing its hold to (-53%).

This is pretty remarkable. Some analysts are saying that the movie is playing more like a family film than most CBMs.

I wonder if the softer than usual international box office is because of current anti-american sentiment. Superman being associated with Truth, Justice and the American Way and all.
The international box office is still 42% of the total earnings. Is that really poor?

Not poor, but certainly slightly softer. Generally speaking, International outperforms Domestic. For example, Jurassic World Rebirth International is 57% of its take, F1 is 66% Lilo & Stitch is 41 D/58 I, Minecraft was 44/55, Thunderbolts was split down the middle, 50/50. I don't think it was bad, but it is objectively a bit lower than one would otherwise expect.

Seems to be a general trend rather than associated with any particular film.

Okay, something is up with the German numbers, at least as reported by The Numbers.

So, after the release date, the first number is supposed to be the box office for opening weekend, then there are a bunch of zeroes because the number of screens hasn't been reported, and then comes the supposed box office total and the date of the latest reported numbers. And, as you can see, the "total" is less than half of the opening weekend.

I've already emailed The Numbers about this, so hopefully, they will be able to correct this soon. Until then, honestly, i'm inclined to believe that the opening weekend number is correct*, as that was reported earlier in the week and I mentioned it in this thread at the time. The "total" might be the number for the second weekend. But this is just my guess, it might turn out that the opening weekend number is incorrect.

*Although that was reported at the end of the first week, so it's probably the whole week instead of just the weekend.
