Tron: Ares

I wasn't too enthused about the new trailer as I was with the last one. I hope it's good but I was wondering about the connection with Legacy (it has been so long since I've seen Legacy) and to find out it isn't much is a little disappointing.

I did just hear the first NIN song released from the movie soundtrack and it did have a tron feel to it. Hopefully the album is good, even if it doesn't reach the levels of Daft Punk.

Well, that's a bummer... Not too off-putting though. I liked a lot of Reznor's work back in the 90's. I think it will fit well in that particular genre/universe.

It's nice to have a bit more plot context in the new trailer, though I'm still optimistically neutral at this point. I do wish there was more of a direct tie-in to where Legacy ended and that we could get at least Sam or Quorra (ideally both) to pop in.

But I'm keeping an open mind to see how it might turn out as well.

Maybe Quorra couldn’t survive outside the digital world? Possible that she is in some way a “parent” to Ares?

Honestly, I get the impression this film doesn't have any interest in connecting with Legacy so I wouldn't expect anything like that to be brought up. It clearly wants to be its own thing and dismiss the rest.

Problem is I'm feeling pretty dismissive of the film as a result. Don't get me wrong, I'll still go watch it with an open mind but my expectations remain super low and not just because of Jared Leto.

We will see. Would not surprise if they are hiding some characters from previous films. Even if just cameos. No offense to Sam and Quorra but the real question is where is Tron/ Alan Bradley???

I am fully aware that Bruce Boxleitner said at some point he was done with Tron. The result frustrations of being asked about the franchise after years of delays and cancellations. But people change their minds when these things finally happen.

We will not know until release but Hollywood can keep casting secrets. It still happens. We know very little about this movie.

Have little invested in this one way or the other. For years growing up as major Disney buff I mostly saw original as a failure in the company’s history. Did not pay much attention when on tv. Did not become fan until I was adult. Sequel was good but after so long underwhelming. Appreciated it more on rewatches over the years. Not sure what I want from this at all.

He was pretty gung-ho about doing the Legacy sequel and he clearly relished his role in Uprising, but I don't blame him one bit for calling it quits after the show's horrible treatment and premature cancellation (I'll forever be bitter at Disney for their treatment of that show...) and the massive delays and eventual cancellation of the Legacy sequel.

I'll be absolutely stunned if Boxleitner has a surprise appearance in this and I'll gladly eat my words if that happens. If nothing else, they would be throwing his face all over the trailers like they did with Legacy (and he barely had a role in that one!).

That's an interesting question, as the ending to Legacy certainly left that open. The new trailer suggests she could have survived fairly easily, given how Ares seems to be a prototype for a Grid-based military in the human world.

The thing that seems strange about this not being a sequel to Legacy is that the storyline is exactly what you would expect a sequel to Legacy to be. Which kind of makes me wonder if at some this was a full on sequel originally, but then they changed their minds and removed the connections to Legacy, but didn't change the story.
