The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

I've always thought Assassin's Creed would have made more sense as a series rather than as movie like we originally got. They've got the opportunity to make some sort of anthology series with each season set in a different time period.

Basic Instinct is to be relaunched, with Joe Eszterhas again writing the script
Ugh. Why again? Hard nope. How will it be any better? More explicit, no doubt.

Hell yes!!!

It's weird, my instinctive reaction was "Oh no he'll make it silly." and then my slightly more considered reaction a minute or so later was "Oh cool he'll make it silly"

I love the movie Dredd, it's a five star film for me, but it does lack the surreal and comedic elements of Mega City One. I've joked many times that if you popped 90% of Dredd and 10% of Stallone's Judge Dredd in a blender you'd have the perfect Dredd film (The 95 film does have a more comic accurate vision of the city, even if it's pretty awful beyond this)

I tend to fluctuate on Waititi a little. I've truly loved some of his films (more people need to see Hunt for the Wilderpeople) but I've found him a little insufferable at times in recent years, but he had can balance the grim and ridiculous halves of Mega City One this could really be something.

I wonder if a lot depends on how well the Rogue Trooper film does, and I also wonder if there's any chance of Urban and Thirlby returning? (unlikely but hope springs eternal)

Netflix released a Rebel Moon video game, and Zack Snyder has made threats about possibly going back into that universe for more movies.

Live action Captain Planet in the works at Netflix. Cue the outrage from the anti-environmentalists and climate change deniers.

Yeah, that one will be in a bit of a pickle, in the sense that it's technically needed more than ever, yet deniers will claim the show is 'woke', and I suspect it won't get more than a season.

Clearly not all people are, given that some of the big summer blockbusters this year include the umpteenth Superman, Fantastic Four and Jurassic Park films.
Not sure of Superman or Fantastic Four count as a reboot. More like a remake. Jurassic Park though is very much a reboot. It's all still taking place in the same universe as the very first movie. They are now basically on their 3rd wave of main characters.

you've got your terminology all mixed up.

Superman/F4: Reboot. no connection to earlier incarnations. The term is meant to evoke "start fresh".
Jurassic World: Sequel, all the previous movies happened in their past.
A remake is a reboot that keeps largely the same plot, not just the basics.

I don't care how journalists misuse the terms, that's what they mean.
