Sorry, I didn't know you had served. Thank you.
I never said I served.
I just consider it one of the Greatest War Movies of All Time.
But it was also made by Steven Spielberg, and made more recently.
So you have a good match made in heaven.
Talk about actual Star Trek battles? You could put the relentless comparisons to the side and talk about the specifics, like why Wolf 359 was or wasn't a better use of a graveyard than Vulcan in ST09? Or how simple Sisko's plans really are?
Those GraveYard scenes are mostly for economic story telling to convey information in a short amount of time, while minimizing VFX work.
Most of the Command staff who fought against the Borg used what technology they had, but all of them made similar mistakes where they fought "The Borg" at close range.
Moving forward in time, they should've been changing combat doctrine to be "Long Range BVR" combat based since "The Borg" heavily rely on "Tractor Beams" & "Shield/Energy Drain Weapons" that all seem to be close range based.
While StarFleet doesn't use their weapons to the maximum potential range.
Both their Phasers & Torpedos of that era had MUCH greater ranges, yet none of it was used to it's maximum effect, despite knowing some of what "The Borg" are capable of from the incident with the USS Enterprise in previous encounters.
Phaser's are rated for a Maximum Effective Range of 300,000 km.
Photon Torpedoes are rated for Maximum Effective Range of 3.5 Million km.
None of which was used.
They just thought, let's swarm them, and beat them up with Many Ships vs 1 and call it good.
Not realizing that "The Borg" are great at close range combat, especially WVR where your combat distance is within single-digit km's.
