"The Wand Company" classic Tricorder

Yeah I looked when they announced the SNW Phaser and just laughed and closed THAT window. I don't mind paying for a nice prop replica but I draw the line at SA from a vendor.
I got SNW as Strange New Worlds, but what does SA stand for? Google has no plausible idea.

In a public forum, it can be very helpful just to type the few extra letters of a word. :)

Not the best solution, but if you just want the appearance and are not too concerned about "features", the scanner that came with the Diamond Select Medical Tricorder will do in a pinch. It has a sound chip but it is very faint, at least mine does. Also, the spinning action is achieved with a "flywheel" gear rather than an electric motor. It's almost impossible to steadily "flick" that wheel to achieve continuous motion without it looking very obvious. I'm no engineer, but if installing a motor was an issue, for Diamond Select, I wonder if a clockwork element could have been inserted, something akin to a "pull back and go" mechanism? In theory, one would wind it and pressing the button would engage a rapid rotation for several seconds, enough time to "wave" the prop for a "sweep" or two. The button would also play audio for the duration.

Funny enough, the scanner that came with the PlayMates Toys version, had a chip and speaker that would almost deafen somebody! Alas, the "spinning" effect was achieved by swirling one's wrist, like stirring a pot. The developers must have referenced the vintage Franz Joseph plans because instead the transparent section was a convex disc, almost hemispherical. It was also a bit oversized (probably to house the electronics of the 90s) while the tricorder itself was closer to 3/4th scale.

If you can't get a Diamond Select scanner, but do have access to a 3D printer, here is a collection of .STL files to assemble an entire TOS tricorder, including a scanner!

You don't have to download all the files, apparently you can select specific ones required for just the scanner.

I just saw I got an "invitation" yo purchase a Tricorder (timestamped 11:18 this morning). I tried at roughly 1:10 PM only to be informed they were already out of stock.

:brickwall::censored::brickwall:

The message claimed more units are coming and I'll get another invitation at such time, but &^%$!!! that appears one will have to monitoring one's e-mail every 15 minutes 24/7 to catch a viable "window of opportunity".

Wow that's crazy.........glad I sourced one last month. This rollout has been painful to watch.

Same, I got the email at 11:20, tried to buy it at 12:22 and it was sold out. Luckily, I have a german tric so it's ok.

Crap! sold out within an hour? Well, 62 minutes... Seems I didn't have a chance. I should have checked my e-mail before zipping out to grab a "drive-thru" burger.

"How could you think of food at a time like this?" :bolian:
Thanks!, Really, I needed the laugh.

Seriously, if I had checked my e-mailed shortly after 11 and saw the invitation, I would have stayed put to place the order, lunch be d@mned. The sick irony is that I usually check my e-mail throughout the day. I have no set "routine", but I normally wait no longer than a couple of hours before accessing the online app. This was just a stupid case of crap timing as I may have checked a bit before 11 AM, the message arriving maybe 20 minutes later.

Looks like "second attempt's the charm"! Roughly a quarter past noon I checked my e-mail and saw I had another invitation to purchase. The message was timestamped 11:50. I clicked on the link and to my surprise, this time it worked! It has been ages, more than a year I made a purchase from Amazon, so I had to leap to a couple of hoops to log into my account. I also had to update my payment options. Each pause make me fear the new stock would be depleted. But nope, it behaved like I managed it in time.

Estimated arrival is some time between July 21st to the 23rd.

All those years of patiently waiting...and Amazon won't deliver it to my chosen address. FML.

I misread the estimated "window of arrival" dates. They actually state between "July 16th to the 23rd". Alas, having checked the tracking every day since I placed my order, it still reads as merely being in the "ordered" stage, not yet "shipped". Ain't no way it'll arrive tomorrow, the 16th. :sigh:

Just got mine yesterday and I have a few thoughts. Here's one.

Unlike the Master Replicas and Diamond Select replicas, Wand's tricorder really wants to rotate downwards every time I press a button. I have to use both hands just to keep it still. Anyone having issues in that area/

I've had a couple invitations but having mixed thoughts seeing some of the issues people are having. I also missed out on the phaser and keep hoping for a reissue (black or white handle would be nice!).

Just received an e-mail that provided me with a USPS tracking number! The latest entry (the only one so far) reads...

"Your item was picked up by a shipping partner at 9:43 am on July 16, 2025 in OMAHA, NE 68138. A delivery date will be provided when USPS receives the package."

Looks like it might arrive within the original projected delivery window.
