Neither has DS9, and we would've been lucky to get a glimpse at HD Voyager in the Documentary. However at some point post-2018, Paramount/CBS shutdown their film remastering department and even went so far as to sell off the film scanning machines.

This info only came out recently because the Voyager Doc had raised enough money to remaster some footage, but found they couldn't.

Of course it should be done. Heck, I'd happily settle for using AI to automatically replace/patch in whatever live-action footage exists, and upscale the rest (such as CG shots and effects). The vast majority of the work done in the TNG remaster, in which each episode was re-edited from scratch, should be able to be handed off to the algorithms these days.

4K? Can we just get HD remaster like TNG first?

My answer is "no", not because it was terrible (what a stupid poll option) just that it's not financially feasible.

So, your answer still means you would want to see Voyager remastered, maybe its not financially feasible, but regardless, if it was possible, you would want to see it remastered. Please listen to the question I have asked, I am not asking, is it possible for Paramount to remaster Star Trek Voyager. I am asking, would you like to see it remastered. 👍

Well, you asked if it was about time. And it isn't time as it won't happen.

But yes I'd like to see it remastered.

Just to toss my hat into the "4K or "HD" (1080p) ring: Personally I would've loved if they offered a 4K TNG remastered option, as sure in 2012-2014 people were still adopting to larger HD/4K TVs, but now in 2025, far more people have 4K TVs and the TNG BDs would look nicer in native 4K.

As for whether or not it'll ever happen for any Trek show that wasn't produced in HD, regretfully I doubt it based on what's been said by the VOY Doc crew. Paramount/CBS ate a lot of the cost for TNG, and now they'd have to outsource any remastering (which for TNG didn't go so well for Season 2), which I'm sure would come at additional cost, more-so than if they hadn't been morons (sorry, not sorry) and shutdown their in-house department.

I don't think anyone here will flat-out say no to that. The question is, what would people here give up? Personally, I'd happily trade HD Voyager for the upcoming two seasons of Strange New Worlds, but I'm sure others would object. (And it's not as though I'd want the cast and crew to lose work and jobs; I'd just rather have the Voyager.)

VOY should be 4K or at least HD. After a year of re-watching DS9 and VOY, I believe this more than ever. Whether or not it actually will happen is a different story. But it should happen.

Upscaling is getting better and better. Soon, they won't have to go through the process they went through with TNG. They can upscale for cheaper and put the new versions of the episodes directly on Paramount+ where they'll be watched whenever someone with P+ puts on DS9 or VOY. Over time, it'll pay for itself.

Kurtzman Era Trek is going to be done after August 2026, when the current contract expires. I don't even see it as an issue of "trade this for that".

TOS and TNG were re-mastered in-between the Berman and Kurtzman Eras. The same can happen with DS9 and VOY between the Kurtzman Era and the Whoever's Next Era.

Oh me too. And we can burn Lower Decks and Discovery too in a sacrifice it helps.

In all seriousness there may be a financial case to do Voyager over new Trek, in cost. If you can make a big thing and relaunch DS9 or Voyager for modern audiences in HD on streaming it could be a bargain.

You can tell they're winding down all of the Kurtzman projects prior to that contract's expiration next year. With the exception of the Academy series, but I don't see that running any longer than PIC.

As far as making financial sense to redo DS9 and VOY in HD I guess I've never been clear on how these companies judge the expense worth it with these streaming services. Never thought I'd say this but I think I'd rather go back to the old cable model over having to subscribe to a dozen different platforms to see the various shows I like.

I would love to see the financial argument for and against. Are people truly not watching Voyager because it's not in a specific quality of video? Is that worth it over creating new content in line with contemporary productions?

Ultimately, I find it a strange argument but video quality is my lesser concern so my judgement is biased and I'll own that.

It almost makes me wonder if they're going to just keep filming the six episodes of season 5 once they finish filming season 4 which they are currently doing, so that both S4 and S5 will debut before August of next year.

I would assume that they base the expense on how much revenue they think they'd make back in Bluray sales. Which, based on TNG-R's sales, is the reason why we will never see DS9 and VOY in HD.

Who cares about Blu-Rays? I'm talking about streaming. This isn't 2012.

Re-posting what I said a few posts earlier:

It'll be really sad if upscaling puts the final nail in the coffin when it comes to our chances of getting a proper remaster.

We don't need a computer to guess what this footage would look like in HD, it was filmed in HD, the accurate picture data exists in their archives. This isn't like Doctor Who where they had to painstakingly reconstruct scenes from multiple sources found across the world and make animated reconstructions of stories that are entirely lost to time, DS9 and Voyager's footage is all in cans somewhere and they can just transfer it to HD digital.

Sure it'll cost a non-trivial amount of money, but it's a one off payment to future-proof two fan-favourite series in a franchise that people will still be watching decades from now.

"Over time it'll pay for itself." Will it? That's where I get unclear on the cost risk vs reward for a streaming service. Will creating higher quality versions of older shows generate enough subscriber revenue to justify the expense?

AI up-scaling is getting better and cheaper which is I assume why Paramount shuttered the division that redid TOS and TNG on Blu-Ray making it unavailable for the VOY doc. That said I'd say DS9 and VOY getting an official upscale treatment is inevitable.
