Mel Brooks Returning as Yogurt in Spaceballs Sequel

Somethings are too good to make fun of. ;)
Well, except The Hobbit wasn't stellar. Plus we have The Rings of Power , The War of the Rohirrim, and the upcoming The Hunt for Gollum.

...I can't help but wonder if Amazon squashed the joke because of their involvement with The Rings of Power.

I mean..... I get what you're saying....
But none of that took away from the perfection that the LOTR Extended Trilogy is. Mel Brooks knows what not to touch. ;)

I need to revisit Spaceballs. I saw it long long ago, but I've been seeing clips on youtube quite a bit lately and it might be time for a rewatch. Loved the announcement. Also loved they got Rick Moranis back.

I would be more enthused about this if we hadn't already gotten the thoroughly disappointing and relentlessly unfunny History of the World, Part II.

All I can say is, I hope the script is good.

Same, only my worry is that what worked in the 80's isn't necessarily going to jive today, and at the time modern humour is very different from what it was in the 80's.

I'm sure like Lucas, Mel will likely have input and say, even pitch ideas and dialogue. Nobody in their right mind is going to ignore him if they are fans. Further more, they probably have ideas and dialogue that Mel has been chewing over his his min and to paper for decades; he's been trying to get this thing made for years and back in the day he probably thought there was going to be a sequel, so he probably started writing things down.

Sometimes comedy films, like TV series, maybe one one or two credited writers, but there is a collaborative approach, lines pitched, actors ad libbing, etc.

I'm pretty much in line with those expressing concern. I didn't even bother with History of the World Part II.

And maybe this is a hot take, but after almost 40 years, I'm kind of, well, tired of Spaceballs? Decades of nerds dropping quotes like "Shes gone from suck to blow!" have kind of sapped it of humor. Not to mention that the idea of Star Wars parody seems a little redundant, now. Maybe if they had managed to get it together during the prequel era.

Not to be a wet blanket. I'm definitely interested in seeing Moranis in a role again, though.

The original is a lot of fun, so I hope they can pull this off because there's plenty of new things parody now.

If Brooks finally got to work on a sequel now, that suggests to me that he believes he has worthy material. It took a long time to sequel "Top Gun", but they knocked it out of the park.

So, cautiously optimistic.

It may be worth noting that Brooks does not have either a story nor a writing credit on the movie. He is listed as a producer, but that just may be a contractual courtesy. I mean, I'm sure they bounced their ideas off of him, but it seems that the story is coming from elsewhere.

Hence, CAUTIOUSLY optimistic. ;)

I need Tuvok in the desert still not finding shit.
I want to see them save John Boy in Nell’s escape pod…Kurt Russell and Sigourney Weaver in a bar—-but most of all…

Dear George Lucas,

It has been nearly half a century.
LET HIM MERCHANDISE!

I needz my Baby Yogurt
