According to Geordi, that was the whole reason the Enterprise's saucer was recovered from Veridian III. I didn't care. I was giddy over what it implied for what could come later. The why was the last thing I cared about. It healed a lot of wounds, just as bringing back Data healed the end of Nemesis. It let me soften my view of TNG from intense dislike to something palatable - even made me revisit and appreciate the first 3 and a half seasons before I got bored and gave up.
