Movie series recapped to lead up to the new movie.

I've read a couple of reviews and it sounds like the movie started out as one thing, then the studio thought, "Oh, we can turn this into a 'Karate Kid' movie'," so they rewrote a few scenes and added Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to it and they only show up towards the end of the movie.

Not exactly true. From what I learned from the spoilers I read, the character of Mr. Han is seen in more than half of the movie. The character of Daniel is seen a little less, maybe he is included in the movie towards the end. and an important Karate Kid and Cobra Kai character is seen at the end of the movie.

One review thought the Joshua Jackson stuff (none of which is in any trailer) was more interesting than the Karate Kid remake part. Another review thought they blew through the story so fast nothing had time to matter.

The new Karate Kid movie is coming to rental and purchase platforms like iTunes and Amazon Video on August 26.
This means that they will probably keep the movie in theaters longer so that it can generate more box office revenue, which is a long time considering that it takes 17-30-45 days for a movie to be released on platforms like iTunes and Amazon Video.

Note: The film is expected to make $100 million at the box office with a budget of $45 million.

My daughter and i fially saw the last 3 episodes, now that she finished her semester at school.... are we still doing Spoiler tags, or now tha the movie is out, we can just feel free to talk about the show?

Yeah, from what I've gleaned through interviews is that Jackie Chan's character is really the main mentor, and Machio explained that it was a compromise they had made in order to let Jackie Chan shine. But they're both in it offering two different perspectives to the training process.

If it were up to me, I'd still keep them spoilered. Still have not seen the final season.

Originally I was thinking of skipping Karate Kid Legends. I gave let to watch any of the last season of Cobra Kai. Huge fan in beginning but enthusiasm faded a lot. My plan was to wait for each part to end and catch up. Never happened… yet.

I liked new movie more than I expected. But still it is what it is. This new kid, the actor, is really good. He sells it. So is his girlfriend. But I easily could see how this was originally developed as something else. There are at least 2 different movies here competing for screen time. He really has 3 mentors. Mr Han and Daniel. But also Joshua Jackson’s character. Who is mostly sidelined once the other 2 roles take over. There are too many characters overall. So none of the characters or relationships are developed that much.

I read a review that criticized the geography of New City versus reality. Which I find laughable. I guess locals would see that. But to anyone else no different than most movies that minimally shoot there. I really liked that location and atmosphere was completely different else in this franchise.

Ralph Macchio is an actor not a marshal artist. I think Cobra Kai did a very good job of making him look credible in fight scenes. Even though there are few times in this movie when Daniel does real moves, it was shot in way to appear hiding his face. Which was strange. He has shown he can do what is necessary with good editing. I wonder if intentionally done not to compare him with Jackie Chan.

Hard not to think of my Dad with all that. He was 6th, 7th, 8th degree Black Belt in Judo. I loss track of his final rank. For decades he was one of the highest ranking in state of Wisconsin. He took me to the first 3 Karate Kid movies growing up. But as a teen and older he would make cracks that Macchio was not real Marshall Artist. Which always annoyed me. It was not really what those movies were about. In terms of being action movies.

I really liked the opening. I read description but not that closely. Did not expect to see scene from 2nd movie. They should re release that.

I remember after Creed thinking it would be interesting to see the Karate Kid years later. Never expected we got as much we did. Mostly good… who knows long this will last. Glad I saw it. More motivated now to finish tv show.

In one of the interviews, possibly even the one I posted in this thread, he does mention he didn't want to compare himself to Jackie Chan, so the arrangement in the movie is what they came up with. He realized that Jackie Chan was the better actor and didn't want to take away from that.

You won't miss anything if you haven't watched Legends, it's a mediocre movie as movies go and utterly predictable both as a movie and especially belonging to the Karate Kid franchise with all of its own tropes.

There are 2-3 nice scenes/concepts ( i really liked how they connected chinese Kung Fu and japanese Karate in this one), the main kid is not a terrible actor and is clearly trained in martial arts and Jackie Chan is hilarious as always ( one scene with him and Macchio training the new kid was actually hilarious - poor kid  ).

The end scene had me laughing well though

How is the
CGI extended scene from Karate Kid II?
...Assuming what I've understood happens is accurate.

As far as i can tell there is no CGI in the opening scene, it's a straight up scene from Karate Kid 2 where Mr. Miyagi explains the roots of his family's Karate followed by a small animated scene.

There is extra voiceover dialogue added where Myagi mentions the Han family that wasn’t in the original KK2 film when he talks about his ancestor winding up in China.

And Myagi’s family and karate system was from Okinawa, not Japan. There are differences.

Ah! Animated. I must have misinterpreted the review I saw. They seemed to imply that the scene from KKII was extended or augmented somehow.

Thanks.

Edit: I just found a picture and info that confirms that there was supposed to be a scene using CG/deepfake/whatever to show us something from the past, but it was deleted.
