NEMESIS is worst Trek movie

Just there, he looks incredibly like Bono. Or Bono's father.

I think it is a lot better than TFF, though TFF had some redeeming qualities.

In Nemesis, there was a pretty good story. It was about the Romulans whom we hadn't seen in a while. It was about two characters (Picard and Shinzon) and their mortality and this was reflected in the Data B-4 relationship. It was a sendoff of the cast. The loose end of Ricker and Deanna got tied up. I understood and bought into all of the character motivations. Finally, Deanna's Betazoid capabilities were integral to saving the Enterprise. All in all a pretty good story.

The only downsides were some technical issues which don't stand up to repeated viewings. The Remans were very poor shots. The firefight in the Enterprise should have been much closer. And the Scimitar takes too long to fire the radiation weapon (this could have been much faster and we could have had some other issue to delay the preparation for firing - perhaps damage to engines and servos which would require manually opening the array?)

I think the inclusion of the Remans was necessary to the story. You could not have Shinzon rise to power on the Romulan homeworld. The Data B-4 story may have been done before, but you needed a counterpoint to the main mortality story and Spiner did well. I certainly would not have given it to anybody else.

Well this morning i finally saw Nemesis for the first time

I had to reply to this thread then, i don't think its that bad a film at all. The new Romulan warbirds were superb looking ships.

Well one good thing about Nemesis is, it generates perpetual "nemesis sucks" threads.
It's not that bad. It has a hollywood stamp on it. It's another case of a Trek movie suffering for having character scenes cut for arbitrary time limits. The formulaic countdown ending is very tired. I am one of those that likes INS better. I wish Worf had more depth in his big screen appearances. He's mostly a buffoon in the films.

Nemesis needed to have some new ground to it, that is where the TNG films diminished. FC had a horror/zombie element that was new for Trek. But INS and NEM went to the well without adding much of anything new. The bigger budgets, perhaps, inhibit creativity and the willingness to go out on a limb.

I don't think I agree with you guys 100%. I like Nemesis. I remember not liking it much when I saw it in the theaters, but I watch it every now and then and come to like it more and more. It's a good time-killer flick :)

Pointless planet scene aside, I find it an excellent film. Shinzon is an interesting villain, Stewart plays well off him, the performances are far more solid than in any TOS film and the events are significant.

It's true. If we could only manage to harness the Nemesis-hate it'd end all the world's fuel problems.
And here all this time I was under the impression that Nemesis-hate was what was causing the increase in green house gases that had led to global warming.

Agreed.

I sort of think Insurrection was equally as horrible, but the nod goes to Nemesis for killing off Data

No other Trek movie comes close to the putridness of "The Final Frontier."

i sort of like the final frontier for the so bad its good kind of feel it has. I also like to be able to tell my non trekkie friends about "the one where kirk fought god..... and won"

I never got past the evil clone who doesn't look at all like Stewart, and smirks, and I want to slap him silly until he stops smirking.

That film was awful, I'd rather watch "Spock's Brain."

I think Nemesis is worse than TFF, which has at least some fun goofy moments (though admittedly some are more cringeworthy than fun), and a very nice Goldsmith score. I find Nemesis to be worthy of the worst sin of all...it's just plain boring. The entire film just has a "been there done that" quality about it that reminded me of nothing other than a 2 hour version of a TNG season 7 episode with the volume turned up. I suppose some of that could be some "TNG Fatigue" that was setting in for me by then (seven seasons plus four movies...), but I really think it's got absolutely nothing going for it.

Nemesis was the most painful of all the Trek movies to watch, imo, so I have to give it the award for "Worst Trek Movie." In it's defense, though, three of the plotlines in the movie could have been reworked into at least semi-decent trek episodes.

With a competent writer, director, and a few changes to the script, I think it could have been a pretty decent film.
