"Certain sections of fandom" don't run the property. When studios let that happen, you get the reactionary nature of Star Wars.
Let the studios do what they do. If you don't like what's being made, maybe watch something else. Just because something has "Star Trek" emblazoned on it shouldn't compel anyone to have to watch it. I'll try it and if it doesn't appeal to me, I'll stop watching it. Lots of other things to try.
Eventually, there will be a Star Trek that appeals to you. If not, that's the way it goes, we all can't like everything. All of the creative minds who originated Star Trek are gone. Every new show will reflect a different take on it. Our preferred version is usually the one that introduced us to the franchise (it was just a "series" when I found it). Some people like "galaxy disaster" arcs, some like episodic high concept, others like animated comedies, apparently just about everyone loves shows with call backs and easter eggs, but I personally find that lazy. But, again, I just choose not to watch. These shows don't exist in my world.
Genre franchises spawn a tremendous level of passion that is both fun and dangerous. People are way emotionally involved over TV shows. I get it, I was like that at one time (mostly because they were shelter from a shitty adolescence), but it dissolved more and more with each sequel to the original. But man, you don't see this with the Law and Order franchise. "God, someone oust Dick Wolf already!"

Trek's future is intertwined with Paramount's (especially given the forthcoming merger with Skydance).
Well, I don't think we need a new thread for every odd piece of news about Paramount that has no explicit Trek connection. I've merged this one with the ongoing Paramount merger thread.
And quicker than the merger with Skydance.
We can probably write off any kind of meaningful 60th anniversary activities because of all this flotsam. Just like the 50th.

Senator Warren, of all people (a former professor at Harvard Law School) should know that the whole POINT of a civil suit is to negotiate a settlement out of court (thus avoiding the time, money, and headaches of going to trial).

Skydance and Paramount wants this merger and are in ass kissing mode to get it. I love how it “leaked” out that Paramount does not want to make Star Trek, but more Tyler Sheridan shows.

Just to make sure I’m not missing something, are you referring to the NY Post article, or something else? I know the article is nonsense either way, but I didn’t see anything to that effect when I read it.
I saw a few articles floating around but they seem to link back to Tachyon Pulse podcast who stated that some people at Skydance wanted that out there about ending Star Trek for awhile and doubling down on more conservative leaning media.
He could be wrong or lying, or maybe Skydance and Paramount does want that out there to placate Trumps FTC during the merger, or maybe that is really the plan.
Either way, once the merger is done, they may decide to do that or go in the opposite direction. I just assume everything is spin right now.
