Question about the JJ Enterprise saucer

What I like about the Kelvin Enterprise is the amount of leg room for the 2,000 or so crew.

What I don't like is that the reactors came out of the secondary hull. They should have come out of the nacelles. Matt Jefferies made this clear do to the level of danger from the reactors.

Yes, there would be smaller reactors scattered around the ship to ensure an uninteruptable situation. Power is fatal.

Star Trek reconned all hazardous warp reactions to happen in the secondary hull in The Motion Picture, and made it retroactive to TOS and before in all subsequent depictions.

The original idea does make more sense, like why have the nacelles so far from the ship unless they were hazardous?? Then they have episodes later where the crew climb around inside without even a radiation suit...

I don't think TMP retconned the location of the warp reactor as we just didn't know before then. The dilithium crystals were installed in main engineering, but it wasn't specified where that was either.

I've always gotten the impression that the nacelles are pretty dangerous even without a warp reactor inside, mostly because they're glowy. Plus I can only think of two episodes where people go inside and both times it seemed like they were plenty harmful to humans. Eye of the Beholder had people working up in the Enterprise D's nacelles, but when people jumped out of the safe section they got vaporised. In The Catwalk, the crew of the NX-01 took refuge in the nacelle maintence shafts because they were the most heavily shielded part of the ship. Despite that, they couldn't be in there when the engines were on because it would get too hot.
