What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

But given how high up Ira Steven Behr was along with how much he contributed to Trek, he still has sway & clout.

Enough that Rick Berman was VERY AFRAID of Ira's anger that he went around his back.

"Went around his back?" Okay. Behr knew exactly what was going on and why it happened. He was a professional and it wasn't his first rodeo. He didn't have to like it. But I'm pretty sure he would've figured out Berman fired her, from either him, Farrell or the media, pretty much immediately.

It was a sad end to Trek.

I enjoyed Enterprise.

Behr is one of the main reasons why DS9 is as good as it is. But he wasn't some creative tyrant who terrorized the other people in the Trek production heirarchy and instilled a pervasive sense of fear. Berman let Behr run DS9 more or less the way he wanted since Rick wanted to focus his time and energies primarily on first the final two seasons of TNG and the first three TNG Movies and then VOY. Berman wasn't "scared" of Behr.

It was okay to meh...

It could've been better.

Especially the first 2 seasons.

Terry Farrell:
The problems with my leaving were with Rick Berman. In my opinion, he’s just very misogynistic… Basically he was trying to bully me into saying yes [to signing a new contract]. Rick said I was hardballing him and I said ‘I’m not. I just want to have a conversation. You’re giving me a take-it-or-leave-it offer, and I’m not okay with that.’ So, finally I did have a conversation with him and asked to cut down my number of episodes or just let me out.

Rick Berman:
To say that this woman was let go is absolutely ridiculous. She was not fired. She requested to not be in all the episodes... to be a recurring character. The studio basically said "no way"... She's a regular character, and she does all twenty-six shows or nothing... She ended up departing. It certainly was not my choice. It was the loss of a character, and it was difficult for us.
This is how he tried to justify his actions.

ISB (Ira Steven Behr):
Deep Space Nine showrunner, Ira Steven Behr subsequently revealed his frustration at how events played out: "Let me put it this way, if I had known what was going on, I would have stopped it."
ISB would've accomadated whatever Terry Farrell wanted and get her to be a recurring character, he didn't know because he was intentionally kept in the dark and was PISSED after he found out.
ISB knew that Rick kept him in the dark because he was afraid of "Another Angry Confrontation" with Rick over what he did.
ISB is still upset with Rick to this day for what he did.

i recall reading an article recently that said part of the reason was also that wang was... having difficulties making it to set in the first place, much of the time, so both he and harry by extension suffered for it...

i do not recall where the areticle was and didn't save it, though, so don't take me as gospel.

No offense to Behr, but he had no power to stop it. The only card he had to play was to resign. Since he didn’t, Farrell obviously wasn’t that important after all.

ISB would've gotten her to resign and negotiated a recurring guest spot with reduced episodes the way Terry Farrell wanted.
Rick Berman just decided to do a end run around ISB.
It's all personal politics on the set.

There was no end run. Berman was the, let’s all say it together, the boss.

Besides, every actor on that set had been busting their asses for six years. Are you going to carve out exceptions for every cast member? Once it got out that Farrell had her required episode count reduced, every actor would’ve gotten in line for their own carve outs.

Berman let Behr and Moore do pretty much, oh, 95% of what they wanted on DS9. But Rick was still the grand poobah of Star Trek and had the final say in the most important matters, and Terry Farrell was one of the important matters. Behr did not have the final say on whether or not Terry remained in the cast. That was on Rick Berman.

Nobody is denying his status as the Boss of Trek at the time.

If that's what is needed to get the final season done, so be it.
It's the last season, do what you need to do to get everybody signed on the dotted line.

They could've made it work.

I don't think he was a "traditional" writer. But the 24th century definitely had his fingerprints all over it.

I'm not sure I understand what that means. A writing credit is a writing credit.

For example, "Brothers" was a very good TNG episode.

To add to this, Berman was a producer and a writer. Not all writers are producers. I believe most writers aren't also producers, but I don't know the exact figures.
