What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Lorca gave Stamets a verbal smackdown once or twice also. Stamets in fairness, didn't seem to understand what he was buying into when he accepted an officer's commission in exchange for getting his project funded. He should have held off for a sweet non-uniform gig like Carol Marcus an Son got.
They seemed to wear uniforms and insignia. And the badges were similar to what Gillian Taylor wore at the end of STIV.

I would propose that Carol's team were members of a Federation uniformed service that exists alongside Starfleet. It would put the soldier vs scientist references in TWOK into the context of interagency rivalry.

Aren't they wearing Starfleet hand me downs? ;)

that would make sense. I just remember that David in particular was upset at having to work with Starfleet.

DAVID I knew it! I knew it! All along the military has wanted to get their hands on this

David was a well educated researcher. He clearly believes Starfleet is military, and he works with them more closely than your average citizen.

There's no excuse for him to not know if StarFleet is a Military or Isn't one.

Cool. Now explain James R. Kirk.

Or how a super intelligent dude from the 90s couldn't understand space has three dimensions?

At the end of the day its a throw away line that serves to move the narrative forward.

On the other hand, the evidence supporting Starfleet = military is overwhelming.

Who's James R. Kirk?

One of James T. Kirk's cousins?

Kirk operates in 3D space all the time.

Most of the battles that Khan has faught have been on land generally.

Knowing space is 3D and having enough experience to instinctively operate in it through countless decades of experience is a different thing.

I'm not saying it isn't a Military, I'm calling it a "Hybrid Service" because it does more than that.

Calling StarFleet a "Hybrid Service" = Military + More things.
