DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

Yeah, in recent decades writers have realized the Aquaman is more than a guy who talks to fishes. It brought to my attention back in the 70s in a JLA comic, perhaps written by Steve Englehart, when Aquaman makes use of his increased strength to take down a villain. Other's played up his telepathy.

I'd think it would be the other way around. Aquaman needs to be strong and durable to survive the extremely harsh conditions of the deep ocean, the crushing pressure and the fluid resistance and so forth. On the surface, he's in a much less dense medium and would be able to move far more easily. More of his strength would be available for action because he wouldn't need it just to force his way through the medium. So if anything, he should be more powerful in air than in water.
Yes, more of his Physical Strength is available on Land. His Duability & Toughness was shown in the Aquaman movies when on land.

Aquaman frequently displays feats of super-Atlantean (the average Atlantean can lift/press approximately two tons) and superhuman strength.
While not on par with Superman and Wonder Woman, he has proven capable of leaps up to six miles

However, his mobility is far more limited on land compared to what he can do in water.
UnderWater, he can swim at extremely high speeds, capable of reaching speeds of 3,000 m/s (11,000 km/h; 6,700 mph; 5,800 kn)
Under Water, he can travel ALOT faster than running on land.

Also, he can communicate with Marine Life via Telepathy.
That's a very domain dependent benefit.

And in some iterations of the comic, he has Hydro-Kinesis as well.
Unfortunately, depending on portrayal, he can't stay on land for too long; especially in arid/desert environments.

He's not automatically more powerful by being in the air than in water.
He has a few benefits, but he loses some advantages as well.
It's more of a net minus for him to be on land compared to being in his prefered domain of water.

I think we're all familiar with Aquaman.

Which could be a hell of a useful superpower even on land, if the writers remember that the human body is made mostly of water.

Also, why is Aquaman's telepathy limited to marine life? Marine life comes from many different orders, classes, even phyla. A dolphin is more closely related to a hippopotamus than it is to a shark or a squid. So a telepathic power that can work on all different kinds of sea life should logically work on land life as well. Unless it's transmitted through water somehow, except we've seen that Aquaman can do it while he's above water.

I concur, or he could do some "Water Bending" like action, kindly borrowed from the Avatar Franchise.

Tell that to the writers / creators of his character. It is what they say it is.

Mera was bending water long before Avatar.
Fair enough, but for Aquaman, it was a more recent "New Ability" for him.

Following DC's 2024 Absolute Power event, Arthur is accidentally given his wife Mera's hydrokinesis. She begins schooling him in how to use it in Aquaman (vol. 9) #1 (2025) as part of DC All In.[101] Aquaman previously used hydrokinesis in his "water hand" era prior to One Year Later in 2006.[96] Versions of Aquaman in other media possess this power naturally. For example, the original Superfriends Aquaman could create concussive "water blasts", while the Aquaman who appeared as a recurring character in Batman: The Brave and the Bold used water manipulation as his primary power.
Considering Aquaman was created in 1941, having a "New Ability" show up in 2006 / 2024 is kinda "neat/wierd" at the same time.

On the Aquaman cartoon show I used to watch as a kid, he would form spheres of water and throw them at opponents. I always though it was cool and when in the pool I'd try to do the same without success.

That must've been the 2006 iteration than.

Since this ability is relatively new for him and isn't consistently given to him over the course of his various publications.
