Irony

"I knew my font was used for the campaign and that a pirated clone named XBand Rough existed," van Rossum told TorrentFreak. "I did not know that the campaign used XBand Rough and not FF Confidential, though. So this fact is new to me, and I find it hilarious." He also said he has no intention of pursuing the matter further.

I will still never understand who thought it was a great idea to put these adverts on DVDs. Like, on the actual real DVDs. Bought and purchased legally. Why make me watch a screamingly loud anti piracy advert when I just want to watch the actual legal DVD of a show/movie?

Same reason why we get all the other wonderful warnings on there.

Because you might have borrowed a copy from a friend or the library, or even purchased one to copy it and then return it later. I guess they weren't taking any chances.

Also to make you stop and think in case you had the idea of ripping the video from the disc and distributing pirated copies of it. Back in the '90s it was very commonplace for anyone with the right hardware on their PC to burn dozens of copies of music CDs for all their friends, schoolmates, etc, maybe even making a few bucks from it. It's a little more complicated with DVDs, but still possible.
