Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

^Even though they never made the episode as planned, I can’t help but wonder if it subtly influenced later stories like "Violations" and "Tapestry."
I bet that's the case. When you're under the gun and need to fill 26 slots a year, there's no point in letting a good nugget of an idea go to waste.

Shhhh.... Don't tell Firebird, but he's got the colors in the rainbow inside out.
Don't blame me, blame Paramount:

EVA-Trek Season Two - Episode 2x08 - "Losing Days": Stardate 50439.7: Shinji and Sakura vanish as the result of an accident in Ritsuko’s lab.

This week's episode features a write-up on my experience at Universal Studios' Fan Fest Nights last week, along with some good close-up photos of the Bridge set from Star Trek: Picard, and a cameo appearance from Larry Nemecek.

Stardate 50625.6: Asuka faces a reluctant family reunion when Nerv hosts a student athlete competition while docked at Deep Space Nine.

Another EVA-Trek-heavy post this week. I'm getting close to finishing production on the season and had a flurry of production art I needed to produce for the final episodes, hence the emphasis on that the last few weeks.

EVA-Trek Season Two - Episode 2x12 - "Little Life":
Stardate 50707.1: Nerv investigates a string of disappearances at a dilithium mining colony, forcing Dr. Amagi to confront a mistake from her past.

And a fun little thing that happened last night - EVA-Trek finally went past TEN THOUSAND reads on Archive of Our Own! I'm just in awe that so many people have stuck around these past few years with the show. Couldn't be more thankful!

Today's sketch of the week turned into a TNG/Evangelion crossover because why not try taking two things I love and see if they work together? I'm pretty satisfied with how it came together... even if drawing out the officer's quarters background took way too damn long.

Holy hell, I can’t believe today marks the fourth anniversary since I first created what would become EVA-Trek!

In the subsequent years, I’ve drawn 143 illustrations, and written over 500,000 words across 42 episodes comprising seasons 1 and 2 of the mammoth fanfic this single drawing inspired. It’s made me a better artist and a far better writer, and I’m always so thankful I had this weird little idea in the first place.

EVA-Trek: Season Two - Episode 2x16 - "The Next Storm" [SEASON TWO FINALE]
Stardate 50969.1: Misato is tasked with transporting Maquis refugees back to Earth, which increases tensions amongst the crew.

After sixteen straight weeks of releases, EVA-Trek's second season has come to a close with its 42nd episode! Overall, I think my writing has massively improved in comparison to the first season. This year has been much more consistent, and I've enjoyed getting to write stories that feel as close to Trek-style tales as I'm capable of. The goal going into season two was writing the kind of Star Trek series I'd love seeing, and I think I accomplished that.

Thankfully, the break until season three shouldn't be too long. The same day the finale went up, I locked the 81-page Season Three Arc document, which is basically the initial outlines and notes for the now-11 episodes of season three, season four's ten episodes, and the 20 episodes for season five. The final 41 episodes of the series are solidifying in my mind fairly quickly, which means I should be able to release season 3 in 2026, 4 in 2027, and 5 in 2028!

A fun thing I just discovered this weekend is Granny's English voice actor, Barbara Goodson, was one of two narrators in a commentary track on the Criterion Collection's release of Stanley Kubrick's Spartacus, originally recorded in 1988/89. I've had that DVD for fifteen years and never realized it! The other voice actor narrator in that track? Michael McConnohie, known for Punch on Cowboy Bebop, among many other anime series. It's one of the weirdest crossovers between anime and my other interests I've ever seen.

EVA-Trek Season Two - Writer's Guide:
A peek into the development process in writing the second season, featuring extensive character bios, interaction details, and a rundown of all the sets.

If you're interested in reading the full version of the guide, which I formatted to look as close to the season 3 version of Star Trek: The Next Generation's writer's guide, it can be found here.

This includes all of the supplemental sections related to the series and script format, and a terminology glossary.

Kinda in a bummer mood today, because it seems like the various algorithms on the platforms I post are just squashing my art posts from getting any interaction outside of the first ten minutes they're online. I know I'm a decent artist and the things I draw aren't that niche, so I just don't get it. I'd be fucked if I was trying to make this my career...

I'm surprised you haven't transitioned to using a Wacom Tablet to draw on.
You're still using Classic Physical Traditional Analogue methods.
The cost of the art supplies must add up pretty quickly.
