Spoilers All Things STAR WARS - News, Speculation & Spoilers Thread

And even then the witch magic came many years later, so it still doesn't explain how he survived in the moment. ( Unless he had been 'pre-magicked' at some point before TPM? ) One possible excuse is that he was an alien and we don't really know anything about his species' biology.

Wasn't there some bullshit about Maul's anger keeping him alive? Admittedly, I might be making that up.

Edit: No, I was right. Per Wookiepedia:

However, through his hate and rage, Maul managed to survive being cut in half as his top half fell down the reactor shaft and into a trash container.[20] A combination of his Nightsister magicks, Dathomirian physiology and Sith tenacity served to keep him tethered to life even as his sanity began to leave him.[28] Maul's shattered body was dumped on the junkyard world of Lotho Minor,[44] where he lived in the bowels of the planet. There he utilized discarded metal to fashion for himself a six-limbed apparatus that allowed him to walk again.[45]

Interesting... it does claim that 'Nightsister magicks' were involved, though I'm not sure how that would work...

During the same panel where Lucasfilm showed off Mando footage and officially announced the Gosling movie, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that six other previously revealed Star Wars films were still going ahead.
  • new trilogy from Simon Kinberg—reportedly Episodes 10, 11, and 12
  • a movie from Taika Waititi
  • a movie from Logan director James Mangold
  • Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey-focused sequel

Not my picture.

Autographs? Really? A man of his talents? 🙂

IIRC, Lucas fully intended to leave Maul dead. It was Filoni who wanted to bring him back.
No, it was George who wanted him back, this was said by Filoni on stage (with George there) at a previous Celebration.

George however left it up to the writers to come up with how he would come back. He had final say on everything, so he clearly approved of what they decided on.

So... either Rey isn't the main character of Eps 10-12, or she is, and she's getting an unrelated solo movie, too? Either of those options seem... weird, but, okay. :p

Why does Simon Kinberg keep failing upward? He wrote the worst X-Men movies, and directed the absolute worst one (yes, I think that Dark Phoenix is worse then Wolverine Origins). The only good X-Men movie he worked on as a writer was DoFP, and even then other people helped work on the story. To get a whole SW trilogy based off of a career of mediocrity (and its not like even his successful movies broke the box office) is just weird. I'm shocked he's not just working on random Netflix movies that get released and everyone forgets they exist within a week. I have absolutely no faith in him making even decent SW movies. That said, he's still better then Waititi or Mangold.

As for the other news, Starfighter seems interesting and actually has a good director, and Maul getting a cartoon is interesting (I didn't know Filoni allowed them to make cartoons not focused on 13 year olds any more :vulcan: ). I want to see the Rey-focused film, but right now it doesn't feel like its solidly happening despite the announcements.

Aren't the X-Men movies directed by Mangold better than the one directed by Kinberg?

Reading some first hand accounts of the 'Shadow Lord' trailer footage shown at the panel, and it sounds like Maul's new apprentice is a young (supposedly teenage-ish), red skinned twi'lek girl . . . could they actually be taking a swing at Talon in canon?

I mean unlike in the EU, we now that we know that Maul's markings are a Dathomirian thing, not a Sith thing, so having a canon version of Talon trained/adopted by Maul (and possibly raised on Dathomir) would be the way to keep her iconic look (preferable a little more sensibly dressed.)
Plus making her young in the early Empire days rather than a grown woman means she could theoretically still be around in the Mandoverse era, or even Rey's time (who even knows how twi'lek's age?) Making it possible to actually somewhat follow through with what George wanted for the ST, at least in part.

Also reading reports that Marrok was there, and had lines! Given how we know he ends up in the service of a Nightsister, and possibly undead and/or given Savage Oppress style magikal enhancements, all signs do seem to point to Dathomir.

Indeed there is a bit of a gap in Morgan's story; the whole stretch of time between being an orphan and outcast on Dathomir, to running a whole planet and working for the Empire. Would stand to reason someone sponsored her rise. Someone with money, connections, resources, and a need to have eyes and ears inside the Empire's war machine, but still kept at a distance for many obvious reasons. Could also explain how the hell she got her hands on Inquisitorious records.

I don't think any of those movies will be made. My money is on the Maul cartoon and the Ryan Gosling being the only things for sure to be made. If The Madaloiran movie is popular I think they will make another one as well. She will be out in a year. No way do they do they start filming on 4 movies at the same time during that period.

I don't know if you noticed but except for the animation project. They haven't announced any live action series. After Ahsoka season 2, they may take a break from live action TV series and focus on movies. Also, I wonder why they haven't made a movie about the production process of the first Star Wars movie in 2027? Anyway, the event isn't over yet, maybe they'll announce a live action series project on the second day. It seems to me that someone at Disney may have said to Kathleen Kennedy that you're canceling too many movie projects, we don't want any more live action Disney Plus shows, we want you to shift your focus to movies, and Disney Plus may have said only make animations? It comes to mind.

Well I really didn't like Logan, and beyond that I really fucking hate Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, so while I can acknowledge that Mangold movies have generally been more critically successful then Kinberg's films I still put Mangold below him. DoFP gives Kinberg one very good X-Men film (even if he was only partially responsible for the story) to Mangold's zero, and managing to make the worst Indiana Jones movie also drives Mangold down a lot, in my opinion.
