Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Jack shouts out TrekCulture and Jesse Gender in one of the episode commentaries

I believe he already stated this in an interview, but Mike also says Jesse is one of the main reasons why that Jennifer/Mariner subplot exists in the Nanite episode, because of her response to the non-ending to their relationship had at the end of Season 3.

Has anyone seen the featurette on Old Friends (Season 4) where they actually talk to Shannon Fill? I'm watching it now for the first time and just the fact that they got her to be interviewed on this feature is amazing. I'm seeing the talk between McNeil, Fill, and Wheaton and it's very enlightening. I don't have Season 5 of Lower Decks yet (I am waiting for the Itunes Price to lower) but I wonder if there is a featurette where they actually talk to Jolene Blalock.

Nope, no Jolene on the blu-ray disc.

Blalock just got tired of the acting profession and went to live in relative quiet with her new husband. Save for her voice over work in Season 5 of LD she's done no acting of any kind in many years, and seems happy to now be living a life of comparative solitude away from the cameras and recording booths.

I understand her. She spent four years at the center of the nerd hurricane and that can be exhausting, even for those who crave fame and want the limelight.

Looks like the release date of the artbook has been pushed back one month to August. Hope there won’t be further delays.
Aaaand the artbook’s been pushed back yet again, this time to January (!) of next year. At least that’s what a mail from Amazon I got today claimed. How incredibly frustrating. For people more experienced than me with how these things work, should we worry about this somehow being cancelled down the line, or is this just a normal thing happening with these kind of releases and thus no reason to be alarmed?

In other news, I wasn’t going to visit any con this year, but then I saw that Tawny Newsome (and Eugene Cordero) will be at Fedcon in Germany at the end of May, so I got myself a day ticket and a voucher for a photo with Tawny. Looking forward to standing next to her and awkwardly saying “Hello” in just a few weeks. Would love a photo with Eugene as well, but money’s a bit tight right now and I’m not sure if the timing will work out. Either way, I’ll make sure to post the photo here when it happens. :)

Things do get pushed back on occasion, but that's usually because they have new things they want to add that came around in later productions after a previous draft. Since LDS is done, I'm not entirely sure what that means. Unless it's taking a back seat to other higher-priority projects and has been relegated to a "Do it when you have the time" basis. Which would, of course, suck ass. :(

As we are now in an almost-entirely digital world, I suspect printed projects like this are always going to be lower-priority, as they aren't the revenue-generators that they were back in the 90's, when the Okudas published updated Official Star Trek Encyclopedias every 6-12 months. Ah, those were the days...

Switching gears to your convention - hopefully, when you see Tawny, she'll have some news about her Risa/Not-Risa comedy project.

~ Booooooooooo. Amazon UK still shows August, but Penguin Random House, Waterstones, and other places all show the new January publishing date. I've pre-ordered it (from Waterstones) and have (unrealistic) hope that it might be brought forward before then.

I'm sure they'll be fantastic and I hope you have a great time. (I'd also be very awkward around them.)

Could be worse - the Wrath of Khan book got pushed back an entire year before finally releasing.
True. Although, considering that this was originally going to be released in July, it seems like they might slowly edge closer to this also being coming out a year late. I guess in the grand scheme of things I don't mind it so much that it’s coming out later. The worst that could happen is actually that it’s somehow canceled.

Right!? I thought it would be years before getting a chance to meet them, so I was totally flabbergasted to find out they will be here. This is going to be SO surreal. Who knows how long it will be before this chance comes again …

Thank you! Haven’t had a bad experience with taking my photo with any of the actors so far. Alexander Siddig, Nana Visitor, Armin Shimerman, Penny Johnson Jerald, Kate Mulgrew, Anson Mount, Melissa Navia — all of them were just great and super sweet. (Except maybe Nicole de Boer, who just seemed like she had a bad day.) For this one it will be Tawny Newsome and Jonathan Frakes, and I have every reason to think they will be great as well. It kills me to not also be able to meet Eugene Cordero and Robbie McNeill, but yeah, the timing just sucks. 😩
