Season 3 First Look

Yeah, Star Trek's never done fun dress up episodes before. Nothing with gangsters, baseball players, Robin Hood, a 1960s casino, 1800s sailors, or an Irish countryside. Nope, never.

Swear some of you would only be happy if Trek episodes were about emotionless aliens in bad makeup and forehead prosthetics being taught the human meaning of love.

The TOS stuff was played straight and taken seriously, no wink wink nudge nudge 4th wall nonsense.

A lot of that other stuff was already corny as hell in the 24th century shows.

Its not so bad when there are 20+ episodes a year, but this is squandering what little batch of episodes they have.

the humans-as-vulcans bit is still one of the cringiest things i've seen in awhile and breaks so much disbelief for me personally.

I'm still half-convinced SNW is just entertainment they are playing in their down time on TOS......

Yes, I believe that's true. Remove the emotions out of it and it's such a better show, especially with dry technical sounding dialog.

Is it just me or these trailers with quick cuts and edits getting harder to watch and to digest? I watched it three times, then I had to slow the playback speed to 0.5
Haven’t really formed an opinion on it yet. Till we get a trailer with a bit more focus I’m not gonna make any pre-show judgments.

They said otherwise when they change the timeline LOL

KHAN!!!!!!!!
ENTERPRISE and the Temporal Cold War fiddled with the TOS timeline a whole lot more than SNW has ever done.
And yet, it's still all the Prime Timeline.

Getting one's knickers in a tizzy over such things, is rather superfluous nowadays.

Hell Roddenberry himself fiddled with TOS while creating TNG.
(heh ... and supposedly, he actually pretty much wanted to completely ignore TOS)

If that was the plan he shouldn't have included McCoy in the TNG pilot and made the second episode a TOS sequel.

There's no evidence that Enterprise changed anything with the TOS timeline and plenty of evidence that Tholian Web happened exactly as we saw it. Sure they introduced the Romulan cloaking device early which is a pretty glaring inconsistency, but that wasn't even due to the Temporal Cold War.

What about McCoy talking about getting the last line in Journey to Babel, which was the last line of that episode?
This certainly looks like it will be fun!

But, if Star Trek could be fun, what's the point of anything?
Good Scott, man, Star Trek shan't be fun! What would Gene think?
WHAT WOULD GENE THINK? WHAT WOULD GENE THINK? WHAT WOULD GENE THINK?

;)

Star Trek had fun with Tribbles and it was good.
Star Trek had fun with Lwaxana Troi and Alexander in a mud bath and it was bad.

Star Trek had fun on a Shore Leave planet and it was good.
Star Trek had fun with the Outrageous Okona and it was bad.

Fun things can be bad. I'm not giving SNW any kind of a pass just because the actors are enjoying themselves.

I think 1960s Gene wanted Star Trek to be fun, for sure. That's especially because, at the outset, he didn't have a clear idea what measure of success and popularity TOS would have. Who could have known? So, they cast a wide net.

1980s Gene, I think basically also he wanted TNG to be fun. But there's the complication of what transpired in the interim. He got a clearer picture of the fanbase, as did we all. Also, he changed. I say "complication," because, IMO, the results of early TNG were decidedly mixed, and that's being generous. That supports the idea that something happened, in the interim, to mitigate the fun.

If, by bad, you mean hilarious, I would have to agree.

Hey, now. You should know by now we don't engage in rational discourse on Trek BBS. This your first day or something?

This would all be more palatable if you would stop stating your Opinions as Undeniable Fact.

Much of what you have posted, doesn't measure up to what a larger portion of other Trek fans believe.

I don't know about giving a pass on something I haven't even seen yet!

Maybe we try watching it first? I think the trailer looks awful but that's because it's edited in a way I find annoying. Since the season won't be edited that way it might be different. It might not even be fun. It might be super serious and dramatic and rigid and all the things desired from inhuman people who don't express emotions and represent the evolved humanity.

I simply don't know.

The undeniable fact I'm arguing is that fun doesn't always equal good. Of course my episode opinions aren't objective fact, though I did I pick pretty safe choices there!

Does anyone want to make internet history right here, right now, and say Cost of Living is a good episode?

Ignoring all the stuff about how you hate TNG, I agree. We don't have context, it's too early to judge.
