Law & Order General Discussion Thread

reading a piece in the toronto star that mentioned at the end that the 3rd series of L&O:Toronto:Criminal Intent is currently in production.

Thought there was read comment at the end objecting the fact the Graff as Det.Seargent seems to know everything would suggest a lack of familiarity with the CI concept.

and had to smile at one scene

Bateman "T.S.N?"
Graff: "Taylor Swift Network?"
Bateman: <just looks at him>
Gaff: "What? she speaks for a generation".

Could have used the line "sounds sporting" but we're on the wrong network for that.

Stabler is going undercover at the 16th precinct special victims unit. Putting on a pair of glasses and growing out a full beard, no one will recognize him.

One of the latest episodes of the original L&O has a scene set in Grand Central Station. But it is almost laughingly obvious it ISN"T Grand Central. Doesn't look even remotely like it.

Why the hell did they do that? L&O has filmed inside the real Grand Central before. At least two episodes that I know of. One was the Robin Williams episode where Mo Rocca starts a pillow fight. The other, I can't remember which, had Benson being led through the station at gunpoint.

Never mind the crowds. If L&O could film there before, they could have done it now. If t's obvious that it isn't the real Grand Central, then what's the point? Everybody knows what Grand Central looks like. They're not fooling anyone...

Good question. I wonder if it's gotten too expensive to actually film there any more.

In the upcoming season of OC, there's a very successful TV producer that has made hit shows about Chicago cops, New York cops and the FBI. But some storylines are suspiciously mirroring real life crimes that he shouldn't know such intimate details about. So Stabler goes undercover as an actor named Meloni to investigate this producer.

Just watched the penultimate episode of the mothership....

the one where the senator guy is killed by a reporter who won't pull an unflattering story she wrote about him

Is this ripped from a headline? If so, which one?

Also...

Looks like Baxter's marriage is toast, or at least on hold. Now he's dating an EXTREMELY hot defense attorney.

A DA dating a defense attorney. Looks like a recipe for disaster.

It was the other way around in real life.
Nevada politician Robert Telles murdered Las Vegas journalist Jeff German for writing unflattering stories about Telles' time in office.

Oh, look, they're doing an episode based on...

that commie prick Luigi Mangione.

I think I'm rolling my eyes into the next STATE.

See, these are the problems that I see with this case:

- The judge was obviously biased.

- There's no guarantee, NONE, that OptiShield's policy would have changed in any way because of Logan Andrews' death. Most likely, no more insurance claims would have been approved, and no fewer people would die.

- Ethan Weller obviously thought Andrews deserved to die...so where does it end? If somebody decides YOU deserve to die, do they get to kill you too? That's the road to anarchy, chaos, the tyranny of the mob. I mean, Andrews had kids, what happens if one of them tries to whack Weller? Where does it end?

The simple fact is, you don't get to kill people. Only the State gets to kill people. (And for the record, I'm against the death penalty.)

- L&O apparently exists in a universe where OptiShield is the only medical insurance company on Earth.

Oh well, even though this episode ended the way it did, I can take some comfort in one thing:

Clearly the jury foreperson was about to say 'guilty'. Just read her lips.

Oh, and where the hell was Shaw? He was barely in the last ep, and didn't appear here at all.

Edit: Whoever wrote this episode must have been a Seattle Mariners fan. (You'll figure it out. ;) )

I actually like the uniformed sergeant that was riding with Riley. I hope he turns up again.

And I bet Yee liked the chance to do some work in the field!

Wow. Color me surprised.

So what is Currie's role in SVU? In this week's episode, she is taking orders from Fin, doing regular detective work. How long does a Captain get to just hang out with another unit?

When skipping through the ads on my TiVo when watching Law & Order I thought it had screwed up cos suddenly it was Graff and Bateman interviewing a suspect.

Turns out it was a promotion for the Stanley Cup playoffs.
