Dune [Part 3] Messiah 2027 (28, 29, 30...)

I'm not sure it actually is anymore? It's kinda nebulous.

My title may be off. Legendary has booked Dec 2026 for an untitled Villeneuve event movie, that Deadline is saying is Messiah.

Would be a nice way to celebrate my birthday....

And a Christmas release would kill at the box office. Pretty sure Part 1 had that slot for awhile at one point as well.

Don't worry, it'll undoubtedly be postponed. Maybe twice.

I hope not, i have enough of Dune delays.

If i's really the slot then stay with it, there's no logical reason why it should be moved again as Dune has proven to be a hit and can go toe to toe with any other event movie or franchise that might also release a movie around christmas time. Timeframe also looks realistic enough, Villeneuve should be well under way writing the script, 50% of the design work could be used from former movies and it wouldn't be too long away so interest remains high because people want to know how it ends.

I guess we will find out in a few months at the lates.

My comment was a joke related to another joke I made earlier in the thread about the fact the other two movies were postponed due to factors outside of the production. Pandemic with the first one, strikes with the second one. Who knows what could go down to postpone this one.

Oh ok;)

Let's try and not find out, fingers crossed.

I don't mind. Villeneuve wanted to take an even bigger break but it seems he got bored with too much free time

Huge movies like these take time and i'd rather they slow down somewhat and deliver the best possible result than rush it and deliver a sub-par movie.

And it seems he wasn't supposed to reveal this spoiler even if it's from a several decades old book.

Kinda like the rules here - spoiler period over but still a dick move sometimes to spoil something big for people who haven't seen/read it yet

I read all 6 of Herbert's Dune novels that he wrote in one weeks long 2846 page binge last winter. I quipped to my SF reading friends that it should have ended after God Emperor of Dune and they agreed with me. I slogged thru Heretics and Chapterhouse and I felt that 1) I was tired of the endless
Super Ghola Duncan Idaho subplot
and 2) I didn't need to read the ones Brian Herbert wrote from Frank's notes. I still have a soft spot for the Dune movie from 1984, the miniseries from a few years back was okay. Most of the casting from the new Dune was good, the actress who played Chani was exactly how I'd mentally pictured her in the book.
