Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Got an email from MR. They are releasing a “full sized” version of the TOS Enterprise dedication plaque. I’d probably be on it if I didn’t have the Eaglemoss version.
Yeah, not really sure that will be a great seller because i'd think most of their customers would have the Eaglemoss one. I did order that ceramic mug version of the grey spray-painted styrofoam TOS coffee cup they announced last week, lol.

I got my Eleos this week, it's a nifty little ship. I like the non-standard hull coloring, the way the registration looks like it was painted with stencils secondhand is also a nice touch. Looking at the physical details on the model, you can really tell that Drexler added his now standard NX-01-based highlights to it.

Interestingly, the MR email specifically mentions Eaglemoss, and that the MR plaque is bigger than Eaglemoss's.

The MR one is to be 1:1 scale, I think the EM one is maybe 1:2. I guess for the diehard TOS fan the MR one is a little more desirable, but if you’re just collecting dedication plaques, you’d just stick with the EM version, since the dozen or so other plaques for other ships are also the smaller scale.

I love love love that Eaglemoss gave us a model of that ship, finalized by Rick Sternbach and the late Fabio Passaro. In my headcontinuity, I consider the USS Voyager NCC-73602 a member of the underperforming Bradbury class and was only active 2368-2370. I wish the model we have was bigger though - it suffers from the "long ship squeezed into square box size" issue we've had with Eaglemoss.

The Bajoran Smuggler Husnock Freighter also looks great, but why is the Vulcan ship orange? I think it was gray in TNG.
Apparently it was repainted for DS9. The timing is close enough that it’s possible it was inspired by the color of the Vulcan ship in First Contact.

I’m getting itchy. It’s March today but the USS Nebuchadnezzar from The Matrix 1 hasn’t shipped yet. The MR website says it ships on March.

I wonder if MR will tackle other franchises now that they lack the licence for new Trek ships? I could see them picking up the NSEA Protector first proposed by Eaglemoss. And perhaps the USS Callister (CAL-4525)…

Happy Mothers Day!

I've been meaning to order that Nebuchadnezzar.

In other starship model news...

Looks like Hiya is stepping into the old Diamond Select light up ship/size class.

I thought about comparing the inflation-adjusted prices of the AA/Diamond ships, or the Playmates ones from the ‘90s, but I decided that while it might vindicate them, it’d certainly depress me.
Accounting for inflation, the HIYA is almost twice what the AA/Diamond ones were (it's been a while, but i recall the ships were around $50 in 2005, which is almost $82 in 2025 dollars). The Nacelle and HIYA action figures, which are also pretty close to the old AA/ Diamond ones, have gone from $12 to $25, whereas $12 in 2005 has inflated to $20. If we use the same additional increase over inflation in price for the ship, it would be around $100. So the HIYA ship is about 50% more on top of inflation.

That said, from the prototype images, it seems a bit nicer than the old AA/Diamond ones.

Loads better, it seems. Way more lights, more detailed paint, spinning nacelle fans. Even at that size, I'd have expected it to be closer to $300.

Never been a fan of any of the Ambramsverse Connie design variants (but I love the Kelvin design and her other contemporaries), but from a technical POV, that thing is positively awesome! I honestly hesitate to even call it a toy.
I wish the Enterprise had been more of a kitbash of the Kelvin. I think this "Kelvinprise" idea looks quite good, though presumably not heroic enough.

Ugh. No offense, but I think it looks horrible. That style was great for the Kelvin and her sister ships. For the Enterprise? No thanks. It's not like the Abramsprise was any better, but this just looks like a bad kitbash of Kelvin parts.
