Anakin refusing to wipe R2's memory was a plot point of The Clone Wars animated series, they had to rescue him when he went missing because the info he had in his memory could be dangerous if it fell into the CIS's hands.

IIRC Obi-Wan in the same story arc also didn't understand why Anakin cared for R2 so much.

It's funny how R2 started as Padme's droid, and C-3PO was Anakin's, and they ended up getting swapped around.

He knows it's R2-D2, even if Artoo doesn't yet recognize who he is.

Yes, it's been rendered as the capital letter O, at least the majority of time in what are supposed to be authoritative renderings, including the film credits.

Just checked the Shadows of the Empire sample on Amazon, just because it was the first book with C-3PO when I searched for Star Wars books, and you guys are right. I can't believe I've been reading that wrong all this time in all of the books and comics with him in them. I could have sworn it was C-3P0 not C-3PO.
