2025 Comics Thread

I don't think that really matches the mood of the board post you are quoting.

I think that's the point -- to say that "good riddance" is a premature sentiment, because they aren't ending IDW Trek altogether, just this particular phase of it. There's no telling yet whether what comes next will have the same creators or new ones.

Just to be clear, I don't want IDW Trek to end. They have done some good work in the past. In addition to the Lower Decks series, I liked the various intercompany crossovers, most of the miniseries from the 2000s, the Alien Spotlight one-shots, the New Visions photocomics, the SNW tie-in miniseries, the mirror universe TNG stuff and the Kelvin timeline ongoing series which was far superior to the movies it was based on.

But Star Trek (2022), Star Trek: Defiant and Sons of Star Trek were awful.

I expect what gets announced next will be a continuation in this same continuity, post Nemesis, with a focus on different characters as thr current status quos come to an end. Defiant’s story has already basically ended as it was. I assume Sisko is fated to return to the Prophets, given Lower Decks, which I admittedly haven’t watched. Perhaps the Theseus will still be involved. Or perhaps they jump forward enough for the focus to be on Worf captaining the Enterprise. Plenty of other characters could be a focus, if they intend on another Star Trek Avengers style story.

So what does everyone want to see in new comic lines from IDW? Here are some things that I’d be interested in:

  • Although I’m only two issues in so far, I’m enjoying the Lower Decks title, and would like it to continue.
  • A Prodigy comic that continues from where season 2 left off. Sure, I’d rather have the actual season three, but that seems to be dead in the water. Would also prefer to have the showrunners involved so the storylines could reflect their original plans.
  • A Worf captaining the Enterprise story, like @ryan123450 mentioned. (Hopefully using the Picard S1 flashback uniforms!)
  • An anthology-type series that does story arcs from each series (eg - a few issues of a TOS story, then a few issues of a DSC story, then a few issues of a DS9 story, etc.) This would give something to those who want to see stories set during the given shows, but without needing to dedicate a series to a specific show.
  • A series with all-new characters (ie not based on one of the shows), taking place in either the Lost Era, or whatever we call the era between the end of ENT and the start of DSC. Although I would assume that the odds of getting a series not based on any specific show in this day and age is slim to none.

More TNG, DS9, and Voyager, and an Enterprise miniseries.
And of course I want to see the the Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks comics continue.

I'd like just about anything apart from the "all star lineup" approach they've been doing. I was sick of that starting day two.

ENT is the true comics underdog, and I'd welcome some stories connected to it. Even if the rumored roadblock regarding the captain's face is true, there's still plenty of other stuff you could explore.

Three new comic miniseries have been announced for this year. Red Shirts, a TOS-era tale with a new cast, The Seeds of Salvation, an SNW story, and Homecoming, a VGR story.

Given that Pocket Books already used Star Trek: Voyager -- Homecoming as the title for their version of what happened post-"Endgame," I'm surprised IDW is using the identical title for their own version.

Also, I'd guess that they went with Red Shirts because John Scalzi already did a Trek-parody novel called Redshirts.

Red Shirts, a TOS-era tale with a new cast

I stand corrected!

Kind of weird that two of the three take place on an arctic-type planet?

It will be interesting to see IDW’s take on Voyager’s return. I’m not entirely sure on the “one final mission” aspect, but I guess I can see why they went that way, instead of just a quiet, slice-of-life story. Although I do hope we get some of that, too.

I love SNW as a show, but I recall not really enjoying The Scorpius Run (and to be honest, I don’t remember anything about The Illyrian Enigma at all), so I’m holding out hope that I’ll find this one more enjoyable.

The SNW cover is visually confusing. TOS phaser not SNW, white collars on the uniforms? they say it stars La'an, but the woman in the red shirt looks more like Ortegas with that hair.

Sad to see the current run end, but it's inevitable considering they were filling in an 18 month gap! Did I prefer Star Trek or Defiant? Mostly Defiant but I loved the other series too.

Will definitely be checking out Voyager: Homecoming, ironically I guess it's set right before Godshock?

I'm just upset that we're going to start back at #1 for the main "star trek" series, seems like we're never going to make it to issue #100 without silly Marvel style "legacy" numbering like they did for issues #400 and #500.

So they're just rebooting the no subtitle series then?
All three of those series sound like they have a lot of potential. I'm glad we're getting a Voyager comic, but I am a little disappointed they're retreading ground Pocket already covered, and it's even using the same title. Given a choice I'd much rather have something set during the series, maybe since the last series had Seven, they could have done one set earlier with Kes or even bridged the two eras somehow.

Yeah, that is weird. Even though the description mentioned La'an, I had just assumed that was Oretgas on the cover. Maybe they're adding the white colors in Season 4?

Is there even going to be a main ongoing "Star Trek" series? These announcements so far all seem to be limited-run series.

Personally, I'd be happy if they never again called a series just "Star Trek" with no qualifier... it makes searches a real pain!
