Alien, Predator, AvP (news)

I figured I'd bump this topic back up since a lot of talk about the upcoming Alien: Earth show is now happening in the Alien Romulus thread.

I'm still a bit unsure about this show. Mostly since it seems to ignore Prometheus and Covenant, which would be fine on itself I suppose. But considering that Romulus did indeed lean heavy on material from Prometheus/Covenant, I wonder if this show will be completely stand alone like the AvP movies.

I saw some clips at the Oscars. Made it look like the movie, “Predators” but with Aliens

I'm guessing it won't be completely standalone or non-canon.

Hawley is honey badger, and honey badger don't give a crap.

They may not say outright that this thing is in a different continuity, but it's unlikely that it will fit with the existing material.

I think it's more likely to be canon and tell a completely independent story from the movies. Not make references to what happened in the movies. If it's successful, they'll come out with a new season every 2 years, make 5 seasons in 10 years and finish it.

The showrunner already said that Prometheus and Covenant will be ignored. If they want to explore a different avenue of xenomorph origin, they will.

If I'm not mistaken, David did not create the Xenomorph. If they are going to change something other than this, it means they will change the canon.

There should be a rule that everything within a franchise has gotta respect the existing canon/continuity.

I would rather not see Alien ending up going down the Batman route or becoming something like the mess that is Halloween. Where you just choose to ignore some of the preexisting movies but not others.

Idk if I were the showrunner of an Alien show I'd ignore Prometheus and Covenant too or at least keep their influence to a minimum, lol. They're a rather annoying headache plot-wise.

I mean this is the franchise that gave us the Alien vs. Predator movies AND that almost produced a movie that completely ignored Alien 3 and Resurrection and would therefore have retconned half of its movie franchise. It's not without precedent. Almost a tradition by now in the Alien franchise. You can pick and choose which movies you consider canon, you'll almost certainly find a comic or a novel or whatever else that supports your view.

The show's creator has specifically said that they will be doing their own story that ignores Prometheus and Covenant.
