I'd not really thought about overly much before reading the last few days worth of this thread, but the F4 casts have seen a lot of reuse in the MCU haven't they? Both of Fox's Human Torch actors went on to play other roles in the MCU proper, the voice of the Surfer got a face part, and the new Ben Grimm is himself playing his second MCU role after previously appearing the the Netflix Punisher.

Of course his face is recognizable, but it's missing the point to think that the audience has to be literally unable to recognize an actor. The illusion just has to be enough to make the audience willing to choose to play along with it. And Downey can easily do that with his acting, makeup or no makeup.

So what? As long as the story is done well, the audience will get immersed in it and will forget any such concerns within minutes. That's the whole point of fiction, to create an illusion well enough that the audience is willing to suspend disbelief and set aside their real-world knowledge to play along with the story.
Mate literally both points you raise here I have said in my own post - we aren't on opposite sides of this

Sue Storm 2015 was also in Iron Man 2. Tim Blake Nelson was in FF2015 and Incredible Hulk/Brave New World.

Yes, with a movie like this you have to find a way to appeal to the most clueless members of the audience and allow them to understand what's going on, and when those people see RDJ they're going to think he's Tony Stark no matter what they say in the movie.

That is not a case of audiences being clueless. Its obsession with a character in the extreme, and still refusing to accept the character is dead and buried in this film series.

Well that's what happens when people really love a character. Sort of reminds me of when Captain Kirk was killed in "Generations."

I don't recall being upset over Kirk's death in "Generations", and I certainly wasn't upset over Stark's death in "Endgame".
